Munich Monsters: Standard M3 vs. Competition Package

European Deliveries from BMW are always fun an exciting. It is a great experience that any car owner would be privileged to have. BMW Blog published an article by Alexei Griesbach about a recent 2016 M3 with the Competition Package (Equipment code “ZCP”) European Delivery and compares it with the 2015 Standard M3 that he had taken delivery of from the previous year. Griesbach knows a thing or two about European Deliveries since he’s had 8 ones since 2004. Here is a footage from the delivery from this year:

Comparison wise, Griesbach says that the Competition Package’s 165 MPH definitely adds more power and performance compared to the standard M3. Though the acceleration is very similar, getting to top speed is definitely smoother, more fun and quicker.

Generally, the Competition Package is more refined in terms of suspension and balance. However, the smoothness of the way the max torque can deliver the acceleration is the best improvement. The Competition Package’s max torque is between 1850 rpm and 5500 rpm but you can control in in harmony, thanks to the improved software settings.

The engine has also been greatly improved. It places less weight over the front wheels and reduces the polar moment of inertia and makes it easier to control for the driver. 0-100km/h is achieved in less than 4.0 seconds.

Munich Monsters: Standard M3 vs. Competition Package

Comfort-wise, the Competition Package wins this round with its seats that will not wear you out even in long drives.

None of these things matter more than how the Competition Package shines is on the track. It secures its spot as a Munich Monster with a push of the “M” button. It suddenly becomes an entirely different beast. It stiffens up the, the steering wheel becomes tighter, throttle response becomes more sensitive, and the HUD turns into a tachometer resembling that of a Formula 1 car. It is truly an Ultimate Driving Machine.
