Exclusive photos: BMW M4 GT3 set to race in 2022

New photos of the BMW M4 GT3 racing car is here, straight from Munich. This GT3-spec car carries over the elements of the G82 M4 Coupe and will begin its racing career in 2022. It plays an important role in BMW’s motorsport efforts, as it is set to replace the aging BMW M6 GT3. At the same time, it also fully replaces the Z4 GT3 once it comes out. Thus, it’s settled to be the only proposition in BMW’s motorsport segment.

It’s a long-overdue retirement for the M6 GT3, yet you cannot deny the position it established in the race track since 2016. It won the Spa-Franchorchamps 24 hours during its debut year. And after only two years, it beat this success with a double victory. A few months ago, resources confirmed that the M4 GT3 has a newly developed straight six-cylinder twin turbo engine.

This engine delivers more than 500 HP. It took the test stand in Munich in February while it performed initial tests in the BMW Group wind tunnel from the middle of the year. It used a 60-percent scale model of the car. In early 2020, BMW Group produced the first test chassis of the BMW M4 GT3 in a plant in Regensburg (GER). And within six weeks, the assembling of the test car for the rollout occurred in the BMW Motorsport workshop.

According to Sportscar365 in the U.S., Turner Motorsport plans to race two BMW M4 GT3 models after their release in 2022. It will replace Turner’s M6 GT3 racing car, which made a name for itself recently. “We want to test the pair of M4s in a race when it’s ready,” Will Turner said. “We’re tracking on the progress.” The team’s owner said that the racing team provided input into the car build. This is because some of the rules and specs are different in North America.
