World Premiere: Rolls Royce Vision NEXT 100

Rolls Royce unveiled its new Vision NEXT 100 Concept, a car that the BMW Group designed to revolutionise the way we look at personal luxury in the future. It is built on the idea of a future where cars are fully autonomous and electric, while bringing people as seamlessly and effortlessly as possible from one destination to another.

Rolls Royce has a long history with coachbuilding and they envision it as a part of the world of autonomous luxury cars. There are four tenets used in building this concept: The Personal Vision, The Effortless Journey, The Grand Sanctuary and The Grand Arrival. These factors consume the car’s entire experience, from beginning to end.

The car looks very imposing. It is 5.9 meters long and 1.9 meters high. The F1-style exposed wheels connect to the “hull” of the car and allow it to seemingly float off of the ground. Luggage can be stored through the side through a door that automatically opens for ease of use. The large, upright grille is now made from glass and illuminates as passengers arrive.

Inside, the Rolls Royce Vision NEXT 100 makes for an Effortless Journey. “Eleanor” a virtual assistant that drives the car for you and assist you in any requests along the journey is a big plus in automated mobility. By the way, she will also remind you of your daily itinerary and schedule, and park on its own as the passenger alights.

The interior is called ‘The Grand Sanctuary’ for a reason. For starters, you can step in while standing up; in case you don’t want to create a crease on your thousand dollar suit. There is also an interior cabin with a lone sofa made of the finest silk and wool, to create one of the most luxurious seating surfaces to ever be placed in an automobile.

Curious what’s on the driver part of the car? Well, there’s nothing. No steering wheel, no user interface, no center console. Only a massive OLED screen and a clock. Handcrafted fine-line Macassar wood circles the entire cabin, in true Rolls Royce nature.
