BMW M2 CS Demand Soars As Scarce Global Production Sells Out

BMW’s new M2 CS has become the hot ticket in Bavaria’s line-up, with demand outpacing the car’s already modest production plans. The regular G87 M2 is already praised for its compact footprint and eager chassis, but the CS version turns everything up another notch. Word from dealers and insiders is that order books are filling far faster than BMW anticipated, and prospective owners are now scrambling to secure build slots before they disappear.

Japan offers a glimpse of how fierce interest has become. All 87 cars allocated to that market are already spoken for, while the United States is believed to be getting the largest share of global supply, with around 300 units expected to land there. Overall production is tipped to stay below 2,000 cars worldwide, keeping the M2 CS firmly in collector territory. BMW itself has hinted that it may tweak production depending on global demand, but there is no guarantee that extra cars will be built.

Part of the car’s magnetism lies under the bonnet. The M2 CS squeezes 523 horsepower from its twin-turbocharged straight-six, sending drive to the rear axle only, without any hybrid assistance or all-wheel-drive hardware to complicate the experience. It is deliberately old-school in its layout, relying on mechanical grip, a muscular powerband and a finely honed suspension set-up to deliver pace. Even the standard M2 is widely regarded as one of the liveliest compact performance cars on sale; the CS simply adds more focus, more precision and more track edge.

The visual details underline its status in the M family. Buyers can choose from Velvet Blue, Brooklyn Grey, Sapphire Black and Portimao Blue, each set off by distinctive matte gold bronze wheels that broadcast that this is no ordinary M2. With larger M models moving towards hybrid powertrains, greater complexity and the loss of familiar badges such as “Competition”, the M2 CS feels like a defiant celebration of a more analogue era. Judging by how quickly it is being snapped up, there are plenty of drivers who still want their performance car as direct, compact and unfiltered as modern regulations will allow.
