BMW will be launching the first market model of the BMW i sub-brand in just a few months, the BMW i3. It will be first offered in a five-door configuration and then followed by a coupe version.
Autocar reports that BMW is considering to add mid-size cars in the i brand line-up. “There are a lot of unused numbers in the i line-up, and there is the potential for other mid-sized concepts,†said the source. It is largely possible that a Concept Active Tourer is being considered.
BMW uses the i3 and i8 as bookends for the new i range so there is still a large room for models that they can offer in between. “With the i3 you have a megacity vehicle that offers zero emissions and a focus on practicality, while the i8 is an all-out sports car that demonstrates the extreme peformance that’s possible using this technology,†the source said.
The BMW i3 and i8 will debut in 2014.
