BMW continues to add more fascinating cars to their 2 Series Gran Coupe line. This year, the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe 216i arrives with a gasoline engine. The new entry-level coupe boasts the same three-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine as the 318i and M235i.
This 2 Series Gran Coupe 216i generates 109 horsepower and 190 Nm (140 pound-feet) of torque. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission sends this much power to the front wheels, enabling gear changes in a fraction of a second. Indeed, this gives everyday drivers dynamic driving capabilities on the road.
However, this entry-level coupe is not the sportiest, especially among the FWD variants. From a standstill, it takes 10.8 seconds to reach 62 mph (100 km/h), with a top speed of 124 mph (200 km/h). Even though it won’t set any Nürburgring records, the sedan comes as one of the most fuel-efficient bimmers you can afford. It consumes about 5.5 liters per 100 kilometers and emits only 125 grams per kilometer of CO2.
The 216i isn’t the first 2 Series Gran Coupe with a three-cylinder engine. We already saw the 216d having the same specs since 2020. The oil-burning engine consumes a 1.5-liter inline-three mill enough for 114 hp and 199 pound-feet of torque (270 Nm)
This new base gas model arrives with 17-inch alloy wheels and the M high-gloss Shadowline. A pair of 10.25-inch iDrive 7 screens integrated with navigation and a hard drive come as standard features. To sweeten the offer, the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe 216i also packs a Driving Assistant package. Ambient lighting with six colors and adjustable brightness also comes with the new coupe.
BMW’s entry-level BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe 216i arrives in Singapore. We look forward to seeing if the luxury brand will offer this gasoline-powered sedan in other markets as well.
