BMW i7 Tech Paves the Way as Rimac Plots Two More BMW Models

Two more are coming. Rimac founder Mate Rimac has confirmed that his company is developing a further pair of cars with BMW, building on its work with the 2027 BMW i7. Autoblog’s Pablo Salapantan reported the news, which Rimac first shared with Automotive News. Details remain firmly under wraps. Still, the partnership is clearly gathering pace.

Rimac kept his cards close to his chest. He said two more cars sit in the pipeline but added that he could not share any further details yet. Neither model has been named, and no timeline has been given. Autoblog points to BMW’s Neue Klasse family as a likely home for Rimac’s electric know-how, though that remains educated speculation rather than a confirmed plan.

The i7 shows what the alliance can deliver. It is the first BMW to use Rimac technology, proving the Croatian firm can hit BMW’s demanding targets for quality, cost, capacity and performance. For the flagship’s mid-cycle facelift, Rimac helped BMW integrate cylindrical battery cells, blending Gen6 technology with a Gen5 module design. Energy density jumps by 20 per cent. The result is roughly 75 extra miles, stretching the i7’s range beyond 452 miles.

Winning the deal took serious graft. Rimac spent around three years of development work chasing the contract, fighting off several rival suppliers. Before signing, the company built a facility designed around BMW’s production requirements. It even walked BMW representatives through the site and showed them exactly where the production line would sit. That level of commitment clearly paid off.

The story comes full circle, too. Rimac’s very first electric project was an old BMW E30, converted into an EV. Today, the company supplies battery technology for BMW’s luxury flagship and has two more projects on the way. Few engineering firms can boast such a journey. From a homemade E30 conversion to the i7, Rimac’s bond with BMW keeps growing stronger.
