Purple, everywhere. Larte Design has taken the BMW XM, already the most outrageous SUV in the BMW line-up, and dressed it in a 17-piece carbon fibre body kit tinted to match the paint. The result is a plug-in hybrid bruiser that looks built for a nightclub car park rather than a country estate. Subtle it is not.

That paint is Lunar Lilac, a lavender hue with a cool blue edge. Larte has matched the carbon weave to it, so the bodywork and add-ons melt into one single violet slab. Then come the wheels, a set of huge 23-inch forged rims finished in, you guessed it, purple. Nothing on this car escapes the colour scheme, and that is entirely the point.
The front end bristles with attitude. A new splitter juts out beneath a fresh grille surround, while a vented bonnet, flared arches and carbon mirror caps give the XM a broader, angrier stance. Down the flanks, sculpted side skirts sweep into muscular rear arches. Round the back, a chunky diffuser frames quad tailpipes in purple carbon trim and four vertical brake lights, while a towering roof wing and a neat tailgate lip seal the deal.

Larte says the kit fits the standard XM, the flagship XM Label and the XM 50e. One snag, though. Right now, this lilac beast lives only on a computer screen as a digital rendering. Whether a real one ever rolls out of the workshop remains a mystery, and Larte has yet to confirm its plans. Until then, we can only imagine it prowling down a high street.
Still, what a statement. The XM already splits opinion with its giant grille and brutal lines, and Larte’s version cranks the volume up to eleven. It is loud, proud and utterly unapologetic. This is a machine for owners who want every head on the street to turn. Love it or loathe it, you will never lose it in a car park.
