The New BMW 7 Series Enters Production With Neue Klasse Tech

The new BMW 7 Series has rolled onto the line at BMW’s Dingolfing plant. BMW calls it the most far-reaching model update in its history. For the first time, the marque’s flagship saloon carries the Neue Klasse technology that will spread across 40 models by the end of 2027. It is a bold reboot for the car that sets BMW’s luxury tone.

The cabin is where the leap shows most. A new centralised electronics architecture underpins the whole car. The headline act is the BMW Panoramic iDrive, a fresh display and control concept. Rear passengers gain a BMW Passenger Screen and an updated Theatre Screen. BMW Symbiotic Drive knits the driver and the assistance systems together.

The drivetrain moves on, too. Sixth-generation round battery cells sharpen both range and charging. The fully electric i7 60 xDrive now covers up to 727 kilometres on the WLTP cycle. It tops up from 10 to 80 per cent in around 28 minutes. Buyers still choose from petrol, diesel, plug-in hybrid and electric power, all built down a single line.

Personalisation reaches new heights as well. More than 500 exterior paint colours and combinations are on offer, alongside roughly 700 interior material pairings. One clever trick is a dual-finish paint job, a genuine industry first that marries matte and high-gloss on one body. It took two and a half years to develop and swallows over 4,500 minutes of labour per car.

On the factory floor, the 7 Series shares Assembly Hall 52 with the 5 Series and the iX. Every single example still faces a real-world road test before it leaves the gates. “The new BMW 7 Series highlights what sets Dingolfing apart,” said Plant Director Christoph Schröder, pointing to the fusion of high-tech production and hand craftsmanship. The result is a saloon that aims to lead its class in tech and finish alike.
