Sporty BMW iX2 Delivers Style and Electricity

The BMW iX2 brings sharp handling and a stylish, coupe-like silhouette to the electric crossover segment. A short drive on winding roads and motorways north of Lisbon revealed a surprisingly dynamic side, with a firmly tuned chassis and steering that gives the impression of athleticism. The result is a livelier drive than many of its rivals, though it might be too firm for those prioritising a cushioned ride.

There are two main variants on offer. The eDrive20 spins just the front wheels for everyday efficiency, while the xDrive30 adds a second electric motor at the rear for all-wheel traction and extra power. Both models share the same 66.5kWh battery pack, translating to a maximum claimed range of around 283 miles for the eDrive20 and slightly less for the xDrive30. In real-world use, the xDrive30 returned closer to 200 miles on twisting back roads and fast highways.

Performance is undeniably robust in the all-wheel drive version, with quick off-the-line acceleration and enough muscle to handle motorway merges or steep country roads without fuss. Charging is straightforward: Connect to a 130kW DC station, and the battery can be replenished from 10 to 80 percent in roughly half an hour, while a typical 11kW home charger completes a full top-up in about six and a half hours.

Inside, the iX2 emphasises quality materials and familiar BMW design cues, trading minimalism for a balanced dashboard layout and smart details like a clamp to secure your phone on the wireless charging pad. The sloping roofline adds flair but slightly compromises rear headroom and rearward visibility. There’s still a generous cargo hold of around 525 litres, so the car offers decent practicality for families or weekend getaways.

Ultimately, the iX2 provides a sporty driving experience that matches its bold looks. While its real-world range may not break new ground, the package will appeal to those seeking a distinctive and engaging electric crossover. The car retains a classic BMW identity, delivering quick responses and an upscale cabin, all while taking a step forward into an electrified future.
