[Video] Is the Land Rover Discovery a serious threat to the BMW X5?

Is the Land Rover Discovery a serious threat to the BMW X5? Historically, these two cars generally do not target the same market. The former has targeted people who prefer more rugged trucks that can handle all kinds of terrain while the latter was focused on consumers who wanted luxury, comfort and performance. This new Land Rover Discovery might just change that.

According to this review from Carwow, a lot has changed in this new Discovery. It is now built on a similar platform as the Range Rover but a lot lighter for better handling and offers more comfort.

The luxury of the interior has been raised as well. The Discovery now uses leather and materials that are superb and give a very high quality feel. It has a better infotainment system and the capacity to seat seven adults. The interior is designed so that the second and third row can power fold for easier loading of large items. They both fold completely flat so you can maximise the space.

The off-road capability is really where is is best in class. The Discovery can easily climb up some rocks and wade in water up to three feet deep.

Overall, it is not as sharp or as fun as a BMW X5. It is powered by a supercharged V6 that makes 340 hp and gets from 0-60 mph in 6.9 seconds but that makes it slower than a BMW X5 xDrive35i. But it is fun to drive and has evolved to be a very luxurious cruiser. It can be a serious competition for BMW for people who want both luxury and practicality in an SUV and just don’t care about the performance numbers.
