2024 BMW 5 Series: A Rainy Day’s Surprise Sight

Higher-priced models typically outshine their budget counterparts in visuals, leading to a surge in their media coverage during launches. BMW has consistently followed this trend. The 5 Series Sedan introduced this year exemplifies this, with the i5 M60, especially the M Sport Package variant, dominating official showcases.

The G60, lacking both the M Sport Package and M Performance grade, is recently captured in real-world photos showing a simpler setup. A reader spotted this pristine sedan at a Stuttgart BMW dealership, sharing the images with Bimmer Today. Given the absence of a driver’s side front fender charging port, it’s likely a 520i or 520d, possibly with xDrive.

While many have labelled this 5 Series as “basic” in their headline and content, it’s a relative term. For example, its Oxid Grey Metallic paint adds €1,070, and the 21-inch two-tone wheels tack on another €4,010. Remember, to opt for these sleek wheels in Germany, the M Sport suspension, costing an extra €450, is mandatory.

In 2024, BMW plans to augment its 5 Series lineup with a six-cylinder diesel (540d) and a plug-in hybrid V8 for the top-tier M5, available in sedan and wagon forms. For electric enthusiasts, a six-cylinder 540i xDrive and a lower-tier i5 with xDrive will debut in Europe. The U.S. market has already secured the i5 xDrive40.

While the standard 5 Series wagon might not reach North American shores, the M5 Touring will, poised to rival the Audi RS6 Avant and Mercedes-AMG E63 Estate.
