BMW Skytop One Of 50 Delivered To Andrea Levy

The BMW Skytop has moved from concept tease to driveway reality, with customer deliveries now underway and the first car handed over at BMW Welt. Limited to just 50 units, the BMW Skytop lands as a low-volume statement piece, blending grand-touring polish with hand-built detailing that sets it apart from series-production models. Notably, one of fifty belongs to Andrea Levy, an Italian racing driver—you can watch the handover video on his Instagram.

Visually, it’s unmistakable. The bespoke bodywork swaps a fixed roof for a targa-style open cockpit, using two removable panels trimmed in leather that stow neatly for open-air runs. Taut surfacing, a long bonnet and a tapering rear deck give the car a classic GT stance, while intricate multi-spoke wheels and a rich metallic finish complete the showroom drama. It’s familiar BMW language, but redrawn with a coachbuilt flavour.

Under the skin, the Skytop borrows proven hardware from the M8 Competition. A 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 feeds an eight-speed Steptronic and xDrive all-wheel drive, delivering a muscular power band and confident traction. Officially, 0–62 mph takes a claimed 3.3 seconds, which means this grand tourer has the punch to match its presence. The appeal lies in its bandwidth: quiet, long-legged cruising one moment, decisive overtakes the next.

Inside, it elevates the 8 Series cabin with bespoke materials and colourways. Deep-cut leathers, precision stitching and milled switchgear give the cockpit a studio-finish look, while the driving position remains pure BMW—low, supportive and centred on the car’s axis. As the first owners settle in, the Skytop’s brief is clear: showcase what Munich can do when it loosens the production reins. A follow-up shooting brake, dubbed Speedtop, is slated for an equally limited run, broadening the theme of this rare targa-bodied flagship.
