BMW M340i 50 Jahre Edition Lands In US With Retro Flair

BMW has finally confirmed that American drivers will not be left out of the anniversary party. The BMW M340i xDrive 50 Jahre Edition is heading to the United States as a tribute to fifty years of the 3 Series, blending classic cues with a thoroughly modern performance saloon. Built in limited numbers and offered in a single high-spec configuration, it targets enthusiasts who know their BMW history and want something more distinctive than a standard 3 Series on the driveway.

Buyers can choose from five heritage-inspired design packs, each linked to a past generation of the 3 Series. The E21 homage wears Ruby Red metallic paint with an Ivory interior and red brake callipers, while the E30-themed car pairs Boston Green metallic with rich Tartufo upholstery and blue callipers. The E36 is represented by Avus Blue metallic over Tartufo, again with blue callipers, the E46 look is delivered through Carbon Black metallic and black upholstery with red callipers, and the E90 tribute rounds things off in Sparkling Graphite metallic teamed with Tartufo leather and red callipers. Each combination gives the M340i a distinct personality that will stand out in any car park.

Every 50 Jahre Edition gains black Shadowline treatment for the kidney grilles and lower air intakes, together with M Shadowline full LED headlamps for a more focused front end. An M Performance carbon fibre lip spoiler and a special badge on the boot lid signal that this is not a regular M340i, while an M Performance exhaust with dark Shadowline tailpipes adds a more purposeful note. Gloss black 19-inch M alloy wheels complete the stance, underlining the car’s road presence and hinting at the chassis performance that sits underneath.

Inside, BMW has given the 3 Series something it has never had before in the United States. Extended Merino leather, normally reserved for higher segments, is fitted as standard and colour-matched to the exterior theme, covering not just the seats but also areas such as the door cards and armrests for a more upmarket feel. Extra carbon fibre trim, a Harman Kardon sound system, bespoke scuff plates and a metal plaque on the cupholder cover reinforce the special-edition status every time the driver climbs aboard.

Under the bonnet, the recipe remains familiar but highly effective. The 3.0-litre turbocharged straight six with 48-volt mild hybrid assistance continues to deliver 386 bhp and 398 lb ft of torque, channelled through an eight-speed automatic gearbox to BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive system. The result is a sports saloon capable of reaching 60 mph in a claimed 4.1 seconds, all while retaining everyday usability. Production has already begun, and American customers keen on a heritage-flavoured M340i will need to move quickly if they want this anniversary model in their garage early in 2026.
