BMW Group has marked a major milestone in its electrification journey with the sale of its three millionth electrified vehicle. The landmark handover took place in Munich, where a customer received a BMW 3 Series plug-in hybrid from the brand’s home plant.

The achievement highlights the surging demand for electrified models across the company’s portfolio. In the first half of 2025, more than one in four BMW Group vehicles delivered worldwide were electrified, reflecting strong momentum in both fully electric and plug-in hybrid sales. Europe remains the largest market, accounting for over 60 per cent of global deliveries, with electrified vehicles already making up more than 40 per cent of the company’s sales on the continent.
Jochen Goller, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG for Customer, Brands and Sales, emphasised the significance of the moment, noting that electrified vehicles have become “an elementary component” of BMW’s technology-neutral product strategy. Plug-in hybrid models, in particular, have seen renewed popularity, driving growth alongside the expanding range of fully electric cars.
This latest milestone follows the delivery of the 1.5 millionth fully electric BMW Group vehicle in July – a MINI Countryman from Leipzig, delivered to a customer in Portugal. To put the scale in perspective, lining up all 1.5 million fully electric BMW Group vehicles sold since the i3 would stretch more than 6,500 kilometres, roughly the distance from Munich to New York.
With more than 15 fully electric models and over ten plug-in hybrids now available, the BMW Group continues to pursue its strategy of electric, digital and circular mobility. What began over 50 years ago with pioneering concepts in e-mobility has now firmly established BMW as a leading global provider of electrified premium vehicles.
