The 2024 BMW X4 M, a sleeker version of the X3 M, offers a more dynamic design at the expense of some cargo space. Deciding between the two largely hinges on personal preference, as their performance is nearly identical. Priced slightly higher than its more practical counterparts, the X4 M’s cost may influence your decision. Nonetheless, this model excels in rapid movement while it manages adequately to ferry passengers and cargo.
The 2024 BMW X4 M shares its powertrain with the xDrive-equipped M3 and M4 models. It’s akin to the X3 M, boasting a twin-turbocharged inline-six engine that delivers 473 horsepower, complemented by xDrive all-wheel drive. Opting for the Competition Package boosts horsepower by 30, while torque remains at 457 pound-feet. According to Car and Driver, the acceleration from zero to sixty is clocked at 3.2 seconds. It’s quicker than BMW’s estimate of 3.9 seconds. However, from behind the wheel, this difference is likely negligible. The Competition Package, priced at $7,000, offers substantial upgrades. This includes larger wheels, an increased speed limit, and Shadowline exterior enhancements, along with the additional power.
This new X4 M mirrors the X3 M in fuel efficiency. It manages 15 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway, resulting in an estimated 17 mpg combined. With its 17.2-gallon fuel tank, the maximum range hovers around 325 miles. In comparison, competitors such as the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio offer slightly better efficiency with 17/23 mpg city/highway and 19 mpg combined. However, this difference may not be a significant factor for some buyers.
The 2024 BMW X4 M boasts a spacious 50.5 cubic feet cargo space, thanks to its versatile 40/20/40 split-folding rear seats. Setting it apart from more affordable variants, this model features exclusive M branding, premium leather seats, carbon fibre accents, and other upscale details. Surprisingly, adding a heated steering wheel incurs an extra $200 cost. Overall, the cabin exudes a more luxurious feel than the standard X4, complete with a standard sunroof. When compared to the X3 M, the trade-offs are minimal yet notable. The X4 M sacrifices 12.2 cubic feet of cargo space and sees a one-inch reduction in front-row headroom. The impact is more pronounced for rear-seat passengers, who lose an inch in both head and legroom.
Equipped with an array of driver aids, the 2024 BMW X4 M sets a high standard in vehicle safety. Features such as Lane Departure Warning, Active Blind Spot Detection, and Frontal Collision Warning are included as standard. Enhancing this suite, the Driving Assistance Professional Package, priced at $1,700, offers semi-automated highway driving capabilities. While a standalone 360-degree camera option is absent, the exceptional merits of the Executive Package amply make up for it.
The 2024 BMW X4 M, with a starting price of $79,100, swiftly escalates to around $90,000 upon adding the Competition Package and U.S. shipping fees. This places it squarely among its competitors in terms of pricing. A Macan GTS, before options, is tagged at roughly $88,450. In comparison, the Mercedes-AMG GLC, although less expensive at approximately $72,000, offers reduced performance.
