[Video] The new BMW M5 Competition vs Audi RS6 in a drag race

We recently compared the BMW M550i xDrive to a car like the Audi RS6 Avant. However, it wasn’t far behind the magnificent RS6, but the less powerful car lost as expected. Today, we’ll see how the same Audi matches up with the new BMW M5 Competition, the M550i’s bigger brother. Things have gone down differently this time, and the difference is noticeable. Check the video and discover the results of this drag race.

You wouldn’t anticipate these two cars to be so far apart by the time they hit the quarter-mile mark based on the spec sheet. But, as you’ll discover, things arent quite as they seem. Under the Audi RS6 Avant’s hood is a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine with 600 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission and the Quattro all-wheel-drive system distribute the power to the car’s four wheels. In addition, the Audi is a little heavier than the M5 Competition.

The new BMW M5 Competition, with its 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 producing 625 horsepower and 750 Nm of torque, sits on the opposite side of the strip. However, the M5 Competition has a lower torque rating but has an added 25 horsepower. With an all-wheel-drive system and an eight-speed automatic gearbox, all of this is likewise routed to all four wheels. Furthermore, both cars employ the same ZF torque converter, but they’re set up differently.

We’ve seen how the M xDrive system compares to the Audi arrangement on multiple occasions. The road was completely dry this time, and the M5 Competition performed admirably. However, the Quattro system helps the Audi to accelerate more quickly on damp asphalt in other situations. But today, this wasn’t the case.
