BMW M3 CS Touring Proves Itself The Perfect All Rounder

If you buy a limited-edition performance coupé such as the BMW M4 CS, it’s tempting to reserve it for weekends or track days. But when the same CS formula is applied to the family-friendly M3 Touring, the result is something entirely unique—a machine that combines practicality with genuine motorsport DNA.

Over a long weekend across motorways, twisting lanes, and town streets, the M3 CS Touring revealed its dual character. It turns heads everywhere, whether for its muscular estate-car stance, bold styling details, or simply the fact that it’s an M car with a tailgate. Personally, I’d tone down the gold wheels and red pinstriping in favour of something stealthier, but the sense of occasion remains undeniable.

There are compromises. The carbon-fibre centre console eliminates cup holders, and the sculpted bucket seats, while brilliant for cornering, become tiring on long trips. Getting in and out gracefully is nearly impossible, and the bolsters will show wear quickly. Yet once you find the right road, those niggles vanish. The steering is razor-sharp, the grip feels endless, and the car shrinks around you in a way that belies its size.

The brakes are ferocious, the inline-six sings between bends, and despite its firm ride, the suspension tuning manages rough roads better than expected. Around town, it is calmer than a standard M3 Touring, while still delivering all the space, boot practicality, and clever rear window hatch that make estates so useful.

The BMW M3 CS Touring manages to be rapid, involving, and practical in equal measure. It may carry the weight of expectation, but it handles it with ease. For anyone searching for a single car that does it all, this might be as close to perfect as it gets.
