Get ready to experience the thrill of the road with the new BMW M2, now in production and set to launch globally in April 2023. This sports coupe was recently shown at Circuit Zolder’s Petrolhead Days in Belgium. Attendees saw a Brooklyn Grey variant with a manual gearbox and optional carbon fiber top. Paying homage to the M division’s 50th anniversary, this M2 features classic Motorsport emblems. While Individual colours won’t be available at first, they may be offered later – a first for the M2.
The new M2 may be customized with M Performance Parts for a more aggressive look, including quad centre-mounted exhaust tips, a big rear wing, and carbon fiber accents. However, this particular build opts for a more subtle approach, proving that less can indeed be more.
Interestingly, the manual gearbox is a €500 option in Germany, while in the US, the M2 comes standard with a manual transmission, and the eight-speed automatic is offered as a no-cost option. Unfortunately, ceramic brakes will not be available on this model, as it comes exclusively with compound brakes. It’s possible that track-focused brakes may be offered on a potential M2 CS/CSL in the future.
As a reminder, the G87 is the last series production M car to feature a pure gasoline engine. Going forward, all inline-six and V8 models with the “world’s most powerful letter” will be electrified in some capacity.
