MINI Paul Smith Edition Paints Heritage With Playful Details

The MINI Paul Smith Edition brings the designer’s trademark “classic with a twist” to the latest MINI line-up, and it’s the featured car here for good reason. Offered across Cooper 3-door, 5-door and Convertible models (John Cooper Works aside), it blends cheeky stance with crisp detailing. The familiar compact proportions remain, but the colour and trim work give the car a fresh edge that reads as distinctly British without feeling retro for retro’s sake.

Paint choices set the tone: Statement Grey nods to the 1959 Austin Seven, Inspired White riffs on classic beige, and Midnight Black Metallic keeps things stealthy. No matter the base, Nottingham Green adds precision accents to mirrors, grille and hub caps, and even one of the roof treatments. Up top, buyers can choose a Nottingham Green roof with a subtle Signature Stripe or a Jet Black alternative with mixed matte and gloss bands. Blacked-out 18-inch Night Flash Spoke alloys sit tight in the arches, while new Black Blue MINI roundels and Paul Smith’s signature on the rear strip complete the look.

Inside, the Paul Smith brief leans into texture and tactility. Knitted dashboard and door inserts pair with Nightshade Blue Vescin sports seats, their shoulders and headrests finished in patterned textile. The steering wheel’s coloured stitching nods to the Signature Stripe, and the curved central display serves bespoke Paul Smith backgrounds in Personal Mode. It’s full of small moments too: a handwritten “Hello” projected onto the ground on entry, the “Every day is a new beginning” motto on the sill, and a hand-drawn rabbit graphic on the mats. The result feels considered and welcoming without clutter.

The charm isn’t just skin deep. Whether you choose an electric or combustion powertrain, the car retains the MINI hallmarks of quick steering, planted cornering and tidy body control, with the Paul Smith Edition layering on style rather than weight. The colour-coded details never fight the lines; they emphasise them. Roof down in the Convertible, the palette and textures catch the light, while the hatchbacks keep that compact, purposeful stance that makes urban driving simple and longer runs relaxed.

This collaboration has form. From the limited 1998 Paul Smith Mini to the 2021 minimalist STRIP and the 2022 Recharged electric restomod, the designer has repeatedly reinterpreted the icon with wit and restraint. The MINI Paul Smith Edition folds that history into a showroom model: confident, cohesive and unmistakably British, with design flourishes that reward a second glance every time you walk up to it.
