It’s interesting to see the new M2 mounted on wheels other than all-black alloys. This week, BMW Canada hosted a special event in Toronto to commemorate 50 years of M. At this event, a prototype G87 was one of the cars on display. The sports coupe was draped in Zandvoort Blue and equipped with the required orange side markers. This solid colour makes its debut with the second-generation M2.
The 2023 BMW M2 comes standard with two-tone alloys in Germany. It also features anniversary badges and severely tinted Shadowline headlights. The alloy wheels, which go by the codename “930 M,” have Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires and are 19 inches in the front and 20 inches in the back. The tires have respective sizes of 275/35 ZR19 and 285/30 ZR20.
The brake callipers on this prototype are blue. However, BMW will give customers a choice to choose red. As part of the external Shadowline package, onlookers with keen eyes will also notice the carbon fibre roof and the blacked-out quad exhaust tips. While the gear level is part of the eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission, other prominent modifications include the adaptive LED headlamps and carbon bucket seats.
The price of the 2023 BMW M2 in Canada starts at CAD 76,500. It will debut locally at the beginning of the next year’s second quarter. The six-speed manual will be standard, similar to how it is in the US. This is in contrast to Germany, where the six-speed manual transmission is unexpectedly optional and costs an additional €500.
The M2 G87 configurator is currently operational in some European regions. However, it is still inaccessible in North America. Nevertheless, we do know that adding a carbon fibre roof to a normal M2 would cost an additional $2,600 and that this is the first time BMW is allowing consumers to do so. As you may recall, the Bavarian carmaker didn’t introduce this option until the M2 CS (F87). We have seen hints that BMW M aims to introduce center-locking wheels, and individual colors will arrive later in the life cycle.
