BMW 5 Series LCI Adds Passenger Screen In Neue Klasse Revamp

The BMW 5 Series is about to undergo its Life Cycle Impulse, and the smart money is on a transformation that is felt first in the cabin. Prototype sightings already show slimmer lights and crisper surfacing that point to the Neue Klasse design language, yet the bigger story may be the amount of glass and pixels waiting inside. Alongside an enlarged driver display and a broader central touchscreen, a floating third display is tipped to appear ahead of the front-seat passenger, giving co-drivers their own portal for route input, media control and connected services.

This passenger screen is expected to be optional on core models and standard on range-toppers, mirroring rival systems from Stuttgart and Ingolstadt. BMW engineers are said to be developing dedicated apps so occupants can monitor lap data, vehicle power flow and even gaming content while the car recharges. The entire trio of screens will run the latest Operating System 9, with sharper graphics, quicker voice recognition and over-the-air upgrades baked in from launch.

Exterior tweaks serve as visual shorthand for the tech overhaul. Expect a re-sculpted kidney grille with illuminated accents, laser-cut daytime running lights and flush door handles that reduce drag. Wheel designs borrowed from recent i models and a re-profiled rear apron complete a cleaner, more aerodynamic silhouette while preserving the 5 Series’ understated executive stance.

BMW is likely to roll the updated saloon and Touring into showrooms late next year, with the optional passenger screen cascading to the 3 Series and X3 soon after. By bolting modern interface hardware to its already accomplished chassis, the refreshed 5 Series aims to keep business drivers—and now their companions—fully engaged on every journey.
