Fuel economy is respectable for a petrol-powered coupé, with real-world motorway runs comfortably exceeding 40 mpg in the 220i and only a modest penalty for the stronger engines. Combine that efficiency with assured ergonomics and a comprehensive suite of driver assistance technology, and the 2 Series emerges as a compelling alternative to heavier hot hatches and SUV-coupés.

BMW’s junior two-door may buck current trends, but it does so with conviction—delivering engaging performance, classic proportions and the satisfying poise that define the marque’s best driver’s cars.
