The most recent M products appeared publicly during a special event held by BMW Canada. This includes the first-ever XM model, the M2 G87. The event in Toronto was held at the Liberty Grand Entertainment Complex. For the first time, people had the opportunity to see the plug-in hybrid SUV dressed in Dravit Grey Metallic paint.
BMW showcases the XM with the largest wheels ever used on a production vehicle, making sure it would be noticed. The regal 23-inch set with the gold accents, also known by the codename 923 M, was the more expensive model. In Germany, only the wheels cost €3,060, and the elaborate paintwork adds another $1,250 to the price.
The video offers a fantastic opportunity to show the “S68” with its engine cover. Flanked by a large “M Power” emblem like in the past, this cover sports eight red accents. These elements obviously tell that it is a V8. A real M emblem featuring three well-known colours is also there to further emphasize the message. Speaking of branding, the factory-supplied charging wire hides in the cargo area. What’s more, it’s inside a tri-coloured bag with the XM logo on it.
The sophisticated headliner with a 3D prism structure and no fewer than 100 LEDs installed in the roof for ambient lighting were features of the pre-production prototype that BMW chose to display. Deep Lagoon Merino leather covering the upper portions of the door cards and instrument panel, contrasted with Coffee Brown Vintage leather, is another innovation made possible by the XM.
Even the rear seats, which BMW refers to as the M Lounge with diamond quilting and a full-size area in the centre for a third passenger, sport the “most powerful letter in the world.” The Bowers & Wilkins sound system, an option for the XM exhibited in Toronto, features 20 speakers and a 1,500-watt amplifier. Although some could say it’s too showy, it does look amazing both inside and out. Nevertheless, BMW anticipates that once sales begin in the spring of 2019, the United States, China, and the Middle East will remain XM’s primary markets.
