[Video] Testing of the G82 BMW M4 Exhaust

It’s truly a thrilling season of waiting for the BMW M4, even with its quirky mug. Featured is the rear-wheel drive, twin-turbocharged I6-powered BMW M Coupe, complete with a manual gearbox. Just the very essence of it is the soul of every car enthusiast’s dream. Also, substituting a car should exhibit how it is more significantly enhanced. The BMW M4 is definitely a beast to drive with its all-new chassis foundation. Added with how the M Division has extensively updated the regular 3/4 Series chassis for the M3/M4 duty.

Noise is a lacking part of the previous M3, and it should also be significantly changed. The video shows, and will let you hear, the more-improved engine sounds of the G83 BMW M4 at the Nurburging. Hearing mostly the muddy Michelins crying for help was certainly due to the driver who was right on it. However, it’s clear that this is a no-joke M engine as you note the few tiny parts of engine/exhaust sound.

A 3.0 liter twin-turbocharged I6 powers an S55 engine, used by the previous-generation M3 and M4. It is also the very similar engine that propels the new M2 Competition. The engine extremely lacks in both its showmanship and noise, even though it’s a remarkably effective engine. It’s a fair flat-sounding engine while delivering punch and power at every spot in the rev range. And it’s definitely not what you want to hear if it is an M car.

However, the new car will be using the new S58 engine of BMW, which also boasts a 3.0 liter twin-turbocharged in-line six. Considered to be way better than the S55 engine due to how it was based on BMW’s B58, it is therefore perhaps the best standard-like six-cylinder engine on the market. On that count, the BMW M4 sounds great with its S58 producing a standard 473 horsepower. This power can also boost up to 30 horsepower added for Competition-spec.

The BMW B58 is already reputable for producing special muffled growl even for normal cars. This even led us to realizing how a BMW M340i is not your average 3 Series. With these as a foundation, the M Division took it to the next level up to eleven. This produced a much better sound than the unreserved S55 engine from the previous M4.
