The BMW M Hybrid V8 is gearing up for a major new chapter as BMW M Motorsport strengthens its partnership with BMW M Team WRT. From 2026, the hybrid prototype will compete in both the FIA World Endurance Championship and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, marking a bold step forward for the marque’s top-tier racing ambitions.

This expansion sees the Belgian outfit, under Team Principal Vincent Vosse, take full responsibility for the BMW M Hybrid V8’s campaigns on both sides of the Atlantic. Alongside the FIA WEC commitment, the team will contest the complete IMSA season, covering endurance classics and sprint events alike. Preparations are already underway, with the car set to make its first appearance at the official IMSA test in Daytona later this year.
To support the effort, BMW M Team WRT is establishing a new operational base in Charlotte, North Carolina – the heart of American motorsport. From there, the team will oversee all IMSA race activities, ensuring seamless coordination with the existing European operation.

BMW M Motorsport Head Andreas Roos praised the move, describing it as a strategic consolidation of the brand’s Hypercar focus. He also paid tribute to BMW M Team RLL for its dedication over nearly two decades, highlighting the handover as both a milestone and a fresh opportunity.
For Vincent Vosse, the upcoming challenge represents the fulfilment of a long-held goal. Having already gained global success with BMW in GT racing, the step into a full IMSA campaign signals both ambition and confidence. With familiarity in the car and the driver line-up, the team is poised to bring its European expertise to one of the most competitive endurance series in the world.
The BMW M Hybrid V8’s dual presence in FIA WEC and IMSA marks an evolution in BMW’s racing story — one that unites performance, technology, and global competition under a single banner. Come 2026, the sound of the V8 hybrid will echo across continents.
