MINI John Cooper Works and Deus Ex Machina have joined forces to create two bespoke cars that capture both racing heritage and a love of design culture. The collaboration celebrates speed, creativity and craftsmanship, resulting in a pair of unique machines that embody MINI’s motorsport spirit and Deus’ raw, hands-on artistry.

The partnership produced two one-off cars: an all-electric MINI JCW called The Skeg and a combustion-powered JCW known as The Machina. Though opposites in energy, both share the same DNA of bold styling, purposeful engineering and a celebration of imperfection. Their roofs carry a distinctive white ‘X’, symbolising the link between the two brands and their shared approach to co-creation.
The Skeg channels surf culture, with translucent fibreglass panels, a bright yellow-and-silver body, and design cues inspired by board construction. Details like roof straps, surfboard-inspired spoilers and neoprene-trimmed bucket seats make it feel like a mobile surf shack, blending functionality with a lightweight, stripped-back aesthetic.

By contrast, The Machina is steeped in motorsport. Finished in red, white and black, it features widened fenders, rally-style auxiliary lights and a diffuser drawn from racing prototypes. Inside, aluminium floor plates, roll cage, five-point harnesses and classic toggle switches deliver a raw, mechanical feel that speaks directly to MINI’s competition heritage.
Together, the two cars form a statement about design and driving passion. One looks to the ocean, the other to the track, but both stand as rolling symbols of a collaboration that unites creativity with engineering. With their debut set for Munich, the MINI JCW x Deus Ex Machina project proves how performance and artistry can merge into something far greater than the sum of its parts.
