Is that the one who works in a bank ???

No, she has a CLK i think

the 335 chic is a competitor of mine, she visited me not long ago. Known her for years and years, she's always had BMW's, cause her uncle is Bib Stillwell, well known BMW dealer in Melbourne. For the life of me i couldnt understand why she wanted specifically a 335. But then i remembered, she's a woman in a mans world trying to prove herself. HSe never hires pretty ladies either. you get why

Re: why 335 and not 330TT ?

OT: Seriously, that new GTR is damn damn damn solid....
super planted on the road, looks damn good (very beefy and strong with real road presence), accelerates like riduculously fast, roomy enuff interior and a decent sound system, only gripe is all the buttons are in Japanese. As well as the bluetooth, speaks japanese.

the design of the car to me, is very solid and tight. Non of the previous car's 'big wing / spoilers" look. The panels of the new car, falls together very nicely. Almost germanic in solidity. Looks like nothing on the road, esp. from the rear. If i could afford it, it'll be the perfect all in one car.

Re: why 335 and not 330TT ?

I agree with you, but in the spirit of this thread, i think the GTR is too "common". It doesnt have that so called posh value that say a BMW has.

Who was it that said youve never really made it unless you drive a 5'er. Dont think they said that about a nissan.

Hey - the poms deserved the ashes in that tour - much more than the pottymouth wimps (I almost used the word monkey here, but didnt know how you would react) you sent across. Send some real men, and maybe they can really win! :p

And acu: once again - let me revisit what I said:

Buyers of technologically advanced cars like the 335i can be classified into three types

1. The car afficionados: like kenn, elmariachi etc. who know what the engine is, what it is capable of and buy the car for its sweet handling, the engine and the ride. Of course the looks come into the picture somewhat

2. The poseurs: people who will buy cars solely based on how they look and how posh they project the person to be. I know someone who bought a 335i convertible just because he thought it looks cool and the 335i is the top of the range in the 3 series.

3. The idiots: who dont know much about cars, but will pile into the 335i because joe next door has it and the bloke at the pub reckons it is good... and ooh - it has turbos

Nowhere do I cast aspersions on you or any BMW owner. Unless you have unlimited money, one always has a budget and you buy the best ride (afficionado) or the best looker (poser-esque) in that budget. I have no qualms in saying that while I (hopefully) would tend to the afficianado category, my wife is 100% in the poseur realm. For her, the car's looks matter first and then the drive, technical gubbins etc.

You bought the 320 knowing fully well what it was, and you modded it because you felt that it would look nicer to you, or would ride better. That's not poser.

On the other hand, if you had modded with the intent - hmm, I have a 320, but let me tart it up and make it look like a 330 - THAT would be poser-esque. e.g. all the bogus M3, M5 etc. owners in Singapore... they are 100% posers.

or the Tuscani dressed up like the F40 (?)
acutually I know nuts about BMW cars. u asked my BMW bikes, especially the R series I knew better than the car the time i sign on the dot. I learned to know my car more after join and being active going to meet up. I'm a designer. someone who cares a lots about aesthetics. 320i was within my budget, and that PML SE gave an offer that I couldn't resist. that's how I got my car. so I also like u shop within budget and love the stock state of the car. or else I would have get GTI, cos that DSG box got me hooked.

after all, what's yours is yours to decide. no one would take that away. cos its' mine.

had you got blues on your left upper chest? :lol2:

*nice ride coming*

Agree with phil's comment there that everyone is a poser to some extent... For example - the guy who bought the 335 convertible.

I think people who buy convertibles are poseurs - who on earth needs a convertible?
:nehnehhh: :yummie: :lol2:

Just look at all the convertible owners driving with right arm on the window, trying to look cool. Or touching up their hair in the mirror. But they're happy; there's nothing wrong with being a poseur lah.

And once again, my comment is being taken out of context. I am talking about a specific dickhead who bought a 335 convertible. His logic was - convertible look really cool - this 335, it has turbo also - so top model convertible can buy. Or something convoluted on those lines.

I certainly do not think convertible owners are poseurs. There is a lot of fun riding around with the top down. My last car was a CLK 55 Convert, and if I had the money, would definitely have gotten my hands on a SL55.

However - lets say you want a convertible for the .. er.. convertible factor.. - get a 325. Nice enough poke with a nice car. If you want the thrill of the N54 twin turbo, get the coupe... even the sedan doesnt have the same pizzaz...

I guess in my convoluted logic, I am losing myself...

... goes off to ogle at GTR pr0n...

Re: why 335 and not 330TT ?

Relaxxx!! I'm only just poking fun at the whole thing - am as guilty as the next guy. We all like good-looking cars and for those who know their stuff, they want it with some oomph too. And they want it personalised.

Bottomline, as long as we're happy and having fun (and that includes guys driving Yam Trees and Yam Pies), it's okaaay.

Re: why 335 and not 330TT ?

Why stop there? WHy not stick on the prancing horse?

I saw a Merc E Class yday at my office car park. Quad exhausts, nice bodykit and E55 AMG lettering at the back. Complete with the V8Kompressor logos on the side. A quick peek into the car showed the gearshift labelled with "classic" i.e. a tarted up E200!

THAT is a Poseur... hot contention fo the king of poseurs properly...

Tasteful would've been everything on EXCEPT stickign the E55AMG badge...

The 335 convertible is nice but not to my liking due to the increased weight. One who buys this car must know that the marvel of the N54 powerplant will be compromised. 200kgs more is helluva lot of weight. Costs more and very close to a GTR. I'd take the GTR with no second thoughts.

Ermmm so is there a dictionary for poseurs?

Plenty! Only for you Barry!

Poseur Examples.

Someone who says they really like something when either
1: The barely know anything about it
2: They're only saying that to fit in

Posers usually all dress the same and think they're totally hardcore when really, they suck. Poser is becoming the new term for
aro.sigma2k.com, because most posers are only doing the annoying things they do to fit in.

EXAMPLE 1:
Poser: OMG I love Green Day!
Punk: What's your favorite album?
Poser: American Idiot.
Punk: Ha! Typical poser. I like Insomniac.
Poser: Wha? Is that a second name for one of their songs?
Punk: No, it's an album!
Poser: They have more albums???

EXAMPLE 2:
Poser: I have a girlfriend. *note: poser is a girl*
Non-Poser: So you're lez or bi or something?
Poser: No, I'm just expreimenting. That's okay in highschool.
Non-Poser: So you aren't attracted to girls but you're dating one?
Poser: Yeah, I love her. She's HOTT.
Non-Poser: You can't say that if you're not attracted to girls. It's faking it. You're a stupid poser. That's sick, it's not just a brand of clothes or something, you're probably breaking your "girlfriend's" heart, because you aren't really attracted to her. Get a boyfriend instead, or be single you fuckhead!
*note: I actually had that conversation with a stupid poser. Most of the posers I know pretend to be bi, and then they use the word "gay" as an antagonistic phrase.*

EXAMPLE 3:
Poser: I love My Chemical Romance!
Non-Poser: What's your favorite song?
Poser: Welcome to the Black Parade!
Non-Poser: Do you own any of the albums?
Poser: No, I just saw the video on TV! It was so cool... I love MCR

Re: why 335 and not 330TT ?

From Dictionary.com, 4 in total

meaning 1,

a person who attempts to impress others by assuming or affecting a manner, degree of elegance, sentiment, etc., other than his or her true one.

meaning 2,

One who affects a particular attribute, attitude, or identity to impress or influence others.

meaning 3,

"one who practices affected attitudes," 1872, from Fr. poseur, from verb poser "affect an attitude or pose," from O.Fr. poser "to put or place" (see pose (v.1)). The word is Eng. poser in Fr. garb, and thus could itself be considered an affectation.

meaning 4

a person who habitually pretends to be something he is not
