Please help me intepret your statement about "normal" humans who buy BMW to poseur............
I'll expand on it at the risk of OT.

Normal humans who buy BMW to poseur don't really care the engine capacity. Of course, there are some poseurs who are super human and they not only pose, but also know all about the insides of the car. And all this talk about poseurs do exclude normal humans and super humans who buy BMW not to pose, but to get the best driving car of its class.

Re: why 335 and not 330TT ?

thanks mate. Bloody good car for a 3000cc

Ive got a 4 litre now, any 335 would kill it!! In fact, ive had 5 litre cars that the 335 would eat

Re: why 335 and not 330TT ?

Jeez ... its hard to talk about any model in the current BMW range without pissing off somebody on this forum. Say that the 1 series looks argly and you get flamed. Mention the word 'poseur' and generate a like reaction.

Personally, I think that BMW's confusing approach to model naming is more to do with product differentiation than flattering poseurs. Remember the E36 models called 323i and 328i? There was only 300cc difference in displacement between the 2 models and yet the naming exercise suggested more.

Why? To convince some less knowledgeable 328i buyers that the extra money they were paying was for a appreciably superior product. In reality there not a great deal of difference between the 2 cars in terms of the actual driving experience. BMW kept up the charade until the E46 330i came along, and finally the 500cc gap allowed the company to revert to a more honest naming policy.

Fast forward a decade and we now have two 3 series models with 3 litre engines - one with turbos and the other without. How do you convince the buying public that there is more to the 335i than a couple of turbos bolted on? Easy. Label it a "335i" and the other a "328i." That puts a bit more space between the 2 models and helps to justify the price difference. Confusing? Not to the knowledgeable buyers. Cynical marketing move? You bet.

Let's examine the first sentence "Normal humans who buy BMW to poseur don't really care the engine capacity." Now, are you refering to normal humans or normal poseurs? Cause normal humans do not pose. Else MOST if not ALL human beings are poseurs - unless you are abnormal. If you are refering to normal poseurs, true they dun care about engine cap. That much I agree.

Then again, normal poseur do not just buy BMW only right? Porsches and Merc too right? Example - X who think BMW 320 is the best driving car in his class is not a poseur, but Y who think a Merc C200 is the best in its class will think that X is a poseur, no? Who defines who's a poseur, following your argument?

Your other statement about superhuman and ultra super human poseurs, wow, stretched the boundaries. Super and ultra super human poseurs know the car too? Then what makes them a poseur? Because of brandname? Status? Man, I envy Porsche owners.

Agree. I am equally confused by the Merc. C200 is 1.8? C230 is 2.3 or 2.5? WTF?

Re: why 335 and not 330TT ?

he who is a non poser is a rare person indeed. I got $15 thongs, cause i thought they were cooler than the $2 ones i had. poser extroadonaire indeed.
If i had a 335, i would be doing burnouts down orchard all the time, imagine if i had a porche!!

Re: why 335 and not 330TT ?

I m still running in my car, driving like a poseur.....

Re: why 335 and not 330TT ?

so ///M5 should be called ///M10V har... ? and ///M3 should be ///M8V.

those numbers at the back or 1,3,5,6,7,8 are all models series ma. why must it be related to the engine capacity to make sense. lucky u guys are not the marketing team, or else today my 320i will be 3 2.0i. isn't that weird?

Re: why 335 and not 330TT ?

Achu ah, actually ever since i was a kid, thats what i thought the numbers meant on a BMW. 320 is a 2.0 litre etc

Precisely....... I also luan...... 318 and 320 both are 2-litres. 323 and 325 are both 2.5-litres. 330 and 335 also same. Luan........

BTW, Merriam Webster defined poseur as a person who pretends to be what he or she is not. I know someone who badged a 320 as 330 is labelled a poseur. I also know someone who badged a 3 series coupe as an M3 is also a poseur. But say X5 got 3-litre and 4.8-litre. Now the chap who bought the 3-litre X5, is he a poseur? Cause he does not care about the engine cap? Or Z4 2.5 vs Z4 3.0?

Re: why 335 and not 330TT ?

Naming it TT would be almost a reference to Audi, a competitor, wouldn't it?

Man I'd love to pose with a C2 Cab (no need C2S) of my own. In red please. And do burnouts on Orchard Road too wahaha.

Re: why 335 and not 330TT ?

i like being a poser, it makes one feel good inside. Let me have just that one thing please!!!! I also like that i know guys with porches, maserati's, BMW's etc. Well, Jack, ive never met you, but i dig your car!!
In Aus i hang with people who own utes.
