Parking problems are common in all major cities, New York, HongKong etc... In Spore, we still have lots of room to build multi-storey car parks and the govt have plenty of money to do it in the HDB estates. Commercial areas will find their equilibriums with the law requiring car parking provision and the incomveniences the commuters choose to endure .
Anyway, the difficulty in securing a parking space in places of residence is a natural disincentive to buy cars. So why penalised those who live in sparsely populated areas or private estates with an outdated and manipulative COE system?

government cant remove coe cos they are so used to the easy money, it's like drugs...so coe is here to stay...erp is just another way to soak up more money from car owners...if we compare their takings for the government, then it's not hard to see why they find it so hard to let go of one...

in the evening, about 6pm++ I drove to bugis junction and there's an ERP just before I enter BJ.
It cost me $3 !!! Crazy man and I wonder what's that for?
In future, I'm not interested to park at BJ at that kinda hour. Any other suggestions to park to avoid that ERP?

as long as drugs n guns are controlled, the crime rate cant b as high as US lah rite.
those of us who have stayed overseas know drugs are freely distributed in campuses etc.... way more liberal than here.
yea US welfare will be the death of its system. once u give, u cant take back. it encourages a slacker society, but better quality of living. When i say quality, its not just $, its the mentality. Our system doesnt encourage entrepreneurship, it encourages corporatism & regimentation.
with no backup like a welfare system, everyone rather stick with a job than risk starting own biz. this explains why our birth rate is extremely low event tho we arent HIV/AIDs rampant & somewhere in central african plains. By virtue of our work to live system, nobody dares not to have job, or take time to decide, or even sacrifice a few months to have a baby. So in order to counter this obvious pattern, garmen go n introduce PR incentive schemes, which has been receiving backlash.... i hope they realize by boosting birth rates via PRs is literally like engineering a society. Sorry but they have to be more pragmatic than that & approach in a personal manner as opposed to top down take it or leave it approach.

let's say no coe, on festive season/sat/sun, everyone is willing to spend $50 (even $100) erp and go to town like orchard, chinatown, tampines, pasir ris, ang mo kio, serangoon (now got Next) .... how would the traffic be at expressway and in town?
btw, i could not afford high coe too but i'm looking into the matter objectively that 'capacity' is a big issue. beijing or shanghai is x-times bigger than singapore and yet the traffic jam is horrible due to unstoppable car growth. some roads got 6-8 lanes and still cannot cope with the traffic.

No need coe.. Coe is free.. No erp also.. Parking all cut down to 1 buck an hour flat everywhere..
Just abolish car loan.. Every car buyer has to pay cash in full..
To drive car after the 10th year.. Fork out a certain percentage of omv to drive it another 10 years..
