Re: The Barclays Premiership / Champions League Thread
I agree that Wenger should spend some money to get one or two experienced players in but I'd stop short of wanting him out. There is no perfect manager.
I would say conclusively, without thinking twice, that Wenger is the most successful Arsenal manager that I have seen. Some may say Chapman from the old era but I think Arsene has done better. Arsene has been a victim of his own success. He came in virtually unknown and started winning trophies left right centre. Doubles, Invincible season etc.
Now there is a tropy drought for a few years and because expectations levels are much higher, fans are unhappy. I am unhappy too but I always remind myself that it was he who built up the glory and expectations in the first place. So, for me, I'll cut him some slack. Yes, five or six years worth. Of course at some point of time, i'll lose my patience but I guess it will be around the ten year drought mark. I guess different fans will have different tolerance levels. Without Arsene and what he has built, Arsenal would be wallowing in mid-table mediocrity.
Ok differing opinions aside, I wonder how the Kronke takeover will pan out and whether it will affect the players. Usually in takeovers, some players may feel unsettled. However in Arsenal's case, I think there is a sense of continuity here since Stan has been on the Board for a few years. Also the takeover will not pile debt onto the club which is what I like. Unlike the case of ManU. They might just go the way of Leeds.
Oh Yes ! Crossing my fingers for a Chelsea 1-0 win in the Champs league. Extra time and penalties. At that point, I dunno who to cheer for ....
