Hi moderators, seniors and all!

Hi Lonewolf! Welcum n c u @ meetup!!

ryan.... can an entry level bimmer like the 318iA M43 Valvetronic outgun an alfa 156 2.0 selespeed? Which one is more powerful, an Audi A4 1.8T and an E46 320i?

it used to be the bimmers rule the game outright... now, the volvos, saabs, audis, alfas, mercedes' and even the lexus looks like they can outpace the bimmer. technology has indeed converged. with the exception of the M3 and M5, the rest of the bimmer range needs their engines uprated urgently. What do you think?

i used to drive an e46 318i, and i was like embarrased countless times by volvos and even a toyota camry!!!!!! disillusioned now. sold it 2 weeks ago. think bimmer should get rid of all their 4-cylinder units. they run out of puff too easily.

lonewolf...... isn't this the name of a hero in those kid game books like interplanetary spy, dungeons and dragons etc...?

Funny..I'm driving a 4 pot too but i don't seem to get the kind of embarrassment as you do. Think it's the driver, not the make.

maybe was over-confident. i drive to max in my cars. the 318i could not hit pass 196km/h. was subsequently caned by the camry and volvo s60 2.0T. it is the truth.

maybe people hate my looks. or guts. but the truth is the 4 pots in the bimmer cannot pace the alfa. i tried that too.

the 318i is the entry level here in Spore... should compare it with the Toyota Altis 1.8/Camry 2.0 or the Volvo S40... even so, specs alone cant put the cars on the same plane... as for the Alfa, it is a mean Italian racing machine... having said that, BMW doesnt compete in the mass market business...

Seriously think tat the driver makes the diff. Personally experience be4 tat a 2l valvetronics got no damn problem hitting speed of 220kmhl, & even the old PFL 1.9l 4 bangger can hit a top of 210kmh.

If u compare the handling of the different make u listed from ur previous post, I wld say tat the bimmer definitely handle much better in terms of cornering & balancing.

Top speeds have nothing to do with driver skill. Keep your foot planted and what the car tops out at, is what it tops out at. The difference lies mainly in speedometer calibration and/or ECU mode of operation (hot fluids, faulty sensors, etc.)

I think what snail_mobile meant, was skill in the form of chee.

Anyway, let's all get back to topic now.

Lonewolf, i'm sure you can meet the rest of the other Valvetronic owners this coming meetup and view their mods which does give the car some additional spunk (albeit limited). Check out Joe's setup, his gruppeM setup. SWEET valvetronic which sounds even fiercer than a 330.

Let's not start comparing the 318i to other marques because it's a never-ending road. Just be happy and satisfied with what you have. I like the 318i because of it's fuel efficiency and looks, and i value that as "that". Let's not make comments about caning other marques or whether my car is better than this or that. If you guys wish to start a comparision thread, please do so on a new thread. We'll all end up with a 1000Bhp skyline vs Dragster story. No end..no end. :)

Hope to see you guys soon! I'm afraid i wont be able to make it to the next meetup due to a business trip overseas :(

Chee is not skill. People who try to substitue skill with chee often end up slow, injured, or dead.

Err.. Welcome Lonewolf :D
