Updates:

Ok, below is the short review of Soundwerkz upgrade of my sound system and helping to re-locate the stock HU back into the system.

On a side note, for all who are thinking of changing their HU to a aftermarket one, the step of re-locating the stock HU is a must. Reading from various US forum sometimes suggest connecting it back into the car but relocating it into the rear boot, but Soundwerkz have managed to do it in a more elegant way. I believe my car should be the 2nd car he is trying this out, check out below for the details.

To share with any potential upgraders of their sound system, if you intend to change to aftermarket HU, you can't just pluck out the stock HU and replace, the reason being our car system will detect that something is "missing" and thus lock out the OBD port. As such, we are not able to do any coding, programming or upgrade of software.

To illustrate this, I bought my Ultra gauge in between my first audio upgrade ( removing HU) and second stage( relocating HU). The gauge only picked up 32 parameters and most of them quite useless info. After my relocation of the HU, the ultra gauge was able to pick up 63 parameters. For reference below are the parameters,

Kelvin tune 2 distinct for me, one for audiophile type song and one for pop/rock. This is to run in and to test my preference, will be going back after one month. By the way, the Audison bit one controller is able to recall 4 presets. An added bonus after the re-installation is that my phone button on the steering wheel now works! I am happy that now, every single button on my steering actually works..

I hope you enjoyed the writeup as much as I did with my audio upgrade journey, I would like to thank Kelvin from Soundwerkz for willing to do the relocating and upgrading of my system. Kudos to the team and keep us the good work.

Re: E90 LCI 323i

I think the stock HU is prone to been kicked my your passengers. Btw, can pm me the place you got the gauge and price please.

Re: E90 LCI 323i

is it a must to keep the stock HU in operation mode
i have seen many replaced the stock HU completely with an aftermarket HU with touch screen

Re: E90 LCI 323i

yup, that is correct. That was what I originally did, removed the whole stock unit. Couldn't code. program or upgrade software. Hence the re-integration of the stock HU.

Of cos, if no coding, programming or upgrading needed, the aftermarket system still plays fine..

Re: E90 LCI 323i

Hi mercur1al,

Thanks for the compliment!

The model I was looking at is this one

Cold Air Intake System Stage-2 Si Magnum FORCE Stage-2 Si PRO 5RIntake System; BMW 3-Series E9x All; 06-13 L6-3.0L non-turbo 54-81012-B - aFe Power

The reason why the gauge picked up more parameters is due to the fact that my oem HU was not in the "loop" thus blocking the OBD port from sending a correct signal. After I reinstall the oem HU into the system, the port"ope" up so all the parameters appeared again. I got it from Godspeed Auto, you can look for Lionel 9061-2014, hope this helps..

Re: E90 LCI 323i

Veri sweet lookin but I dun understand why u wana relocate ur hu under ur seat as the only mode u need the hu is to be in 'off' mode. Tat posn is too prone to be kicked and eventually turning on the hu, wich wil cause signal interference ya? At least tats wat I experienced...haha

That CAI looks ok with enclosed kit. I made a mistake in my previous ride installing CAI without full heat shield and discovered lost of power after car warmed up. CAI was sunking in hot engine bay air. Lesson learn, don't waste $ on CAI unless one has fully enclosed unit. If you can, CF heat shield. Obviuosly the question is whether $ spent is worth few HP gain.

Re: E90 LCI 323i

if the entire intake is enclosed like stock setup
why did the aftermarket intake still called cold air intake (CAI) ?

LOL, good point. Maybe they should rename is as Colder Air Intake.

Re: E90 LCI 323i

my point is aftermarket maker is bullshiting their intake is cold air with a big mushroom filter exposed in the engine compartment
the stock setup with air suck in from front and pipe directly to an enclosed intake is true cold air

the CAI originated from the japanese tuner where the intake filter is installed at an opening at the front bumper near the foglight
