battery in the trunk for 335

Re: battery in the trunk for 335

I wonder if anyone has removed the battery and weighed it...

Re: battery in the trunk for 335

it weighs at least 50ilbs = 23kg.not sure i am strong enough to carry it out.it may break my back.

Re: battery in the trunk for 335

actually, everytime i go back home, my car battery is dead, cause a mate is an auto elec, he gives me a new battery FOC everytime. I remove the battery with one hand, cannot be 25kg's lah. Im thinking 10 at most. Unless the 6 cylinder BMW's have a truck battery, i just cant fathom a 25+kg battery. Even the battery in my boat i remove all the time, it's no way that heavy

Re: battery in the trunk for 335

i know, im blown away if they are in fact that heavy!!

Re: battery in the trunk for 335

Wah battery also must mod ah? kekeke.....

There must be a reason why BMW make that battery like that roight? Did we find out why before we change.

Ah Beng, I can't speak for BMW.

But when the engineers for the Bentley were at Audi factory to comment on the R8, they said (paraphrased, cannot find link):

Wow, the R8 is wonderful, they build the weight in the centre and build out from the centre in order to achieve balance. The balance optimization is build from the core and soul of the R8.

For our Bentleys, in order to achieve optimization, what we did was to stick 2 heavy batteries at the trunk to achieve balance.

The R8 way is better because the weights are really where they should be. The Bentleys weight can make a pendulum effect if we overdo it.

Re: battery in the trunk for 335

isnt that what porsche used to do for their 911. install heavy lead weights in the nose so that the car can be vaguely drivable.

BMW started it all with the Turbo thing. The 335i has changed the face of BMW mods more than any model in the past decade. Because it's so easy to start modding the 335i with BIG payoff, so people get bitten by the bug and do all kinds of crazy things.

After you pick the low lying fruit by upping the boost and kickin using piggyback ECU, then the other fruits are harder to pick. You do the suspension, wheels, etc. After all the mid-lying fruits picked, you will do the crazy things.

Battery relocation, seat changes, stripping the car, etc.
