hi folks

i found out that the battery for 335 is located in the right hand trunk.is that true ?

i read that it weighs 52 ibs.a lot of people changing to light weight models weighing less than 20 ibs.thats a weight saving of 32 ibs.

and also our fuel tank is in the right hand side.so this 32 ibs weight saving will make our car more balanced.

for LHD cars it will make them off balance a bit.

have anyone changed their stock batteries ? where can i buy light weigh batteries ?

cheers

Re: battery in the trunk for 335

if you are so worried about weight savings, try taking out the air con la.
I bet you can shed off a few more pounds off your self too.

Re: battery in the trunk for 335

Its true that the battery is at the rightside of the trunk, below your tools but I find it hard to believe that the batt is 52lbs... that's like 20.8kg!! No wayyyyy....

i am going to take a look at mine when my car arrives.

just found a singapore distributor that deals in light weigh high capacity batteries.gonna call them on monday.

Re: battery in the trunk for 335

Just bcos of few lbs and you want to change the battery, you will have plenty of items to change. You should just leave it, small matter.

Re: battery in the trunk for 335

I gues the 335i battery has been specced to make ready for `no charge during acceleration' feature which debuted in the M3 - they share the same battery.

But the 335i AFAIK not yet has this feature. However, I read 2008 models will have this, but what constitutes a 2008 model year car for BMW I am not sure.

Once this feature is in, you must use the big battery, otherwise, you will not get enough charge.

A high capacity Orion cylinderical cell battery may be able to do the replacement, at 19-25lbs depending on capacity.

I stand corrected but based on BMW production cycle, I am given to understand that those manufactured 3rd quater of 07 onwards is considered an 08 model.

i think barry rex7vtec has some lobang for a good lightweight battery. can ask him about it

Re: battery in the trunk for 335

the dilemma faced by most people would be = would a reduction in weight overall be worth the balance alteration? Anybody can address this?

for RHD cars a lighter battery is good news.cause the oil tank, battery and driver are on the right side.the battery actually sits quite high above the axle.so less weight on the right hand side is good for RHD.for LHD it may not.

Overwhelming reason then to change to a lightweight braille lightweight battery or something. Oh god, what was BMW thinking? Make it so easy for people to improve the car = engineers not thinking at all.

Re: battery in the trunk for 335

firstly, there is no way even a standard off the shelf battery weighs 20kg, not possible

What you have to look for is CCA (cold cranking amps) I would suggest at least a 550, which means its an 11 plate battery, perfect for 4 potters. 13 plate is the go for 6 or 8 cylinder cars.

Get a dry cell, like an Optima, they are low weight. Although, im still confused as to how a battery weights 20kg, thats almost a bag of cement!! Unless it's a truck battery.
