Reliability of the F10 523 gearbox

Re: Reliability of the F10 523 gearbox

agree with you. which is why i told PML that it is ridiculous that i have to change the WHOLE GB simply because the clutch is worn out. however, the response from them is that they do not have the spare parts to just change the clutch.

???????

anyway, will consider your suggestion but that means can only do it at the external workshop. meaning there is no guarantee the problem will be solved and no warranty after that as well.

You could just replace the clutches if PML confirms that the valvebody is fine.....

What I am reading here is almost like saying - "I am replacing my engine because the vanos is causing my car to jerk ....."

Most workshops give a warranty of at least 6 months. Just ask around. Advise is to avoid those that dun give warranty

Did PML give a discount for the GB since your mileage is below 100k? Mine also F10, 523i, 4.5years coming to 100k, no problem so far..

Re: Reliability of the F10 523 gearbox

Got this message:
Transmission fault
Tried stopping and restarting engine but still can not work. Now can not change to R or D, car can not move......
Any advice how to reset the fault so can at least drive to work shop to have a check?
Thanks

Hi Bro

I just got mine done last week by PML. same as Otar Bro. The answer is depending on your mileage and year of Manufacture. Most F10 GB problem started with jerking while stopping of changing up or down the gear. Best to show PML first. They do give discount for low mileage car after warranty period.

Good luck.

Re: Reliability of the F10 523 gearbox

your problem seems more serious - cannot change to R or D. hope you manage to get the problem solved.

Re: Reliability of the F10 523 gearbox

I got the same problem on my e63 630i a year ago and I went to outside WS to get an overhaul done, paid 4.5k till now GB is running fine ( touchwood). This WS is specialist in Auto GB which is in Toa Payoh above Nissan showroom.

And they gave me a 6 month warranty after fixing my GB.

just to share....

Re: Reliability of the F10 523 gearbox

What a horrific experience, TS. I'm now pretty worried as mine is also a 2011 523 F10. Looks like gearboxes with more than 6 gears are not very reliable when I also recalled VW's 7-speed DSG had tons of issues.

Re: Reliability of the F10 523 gearbox

i think there are many running around with no problem. probably i wasn't so lucky. so don't worry if your car is running fine and enjoy the ride!

Can anyone advise if i should change atf oil now? my mileage for my 2011 f10 523 is now at 101,000km and pml kept telling me no need to change atf. My car is ok now with no transmission issues.

Pls get it changed, as fresh atf fluid is always good for gearbox.

Bro, can PM me how much it cost you to change the GB at PML? Cos my car is high mileage and out of warranty...

Thanks!

Hi all,

I had this problem months back. Did my 2nd Atf change with mileage at 60k, problem still exist. Under the advise of Gavin, 2nd option is to load in new software. So waited patiently for 2 months for the new software to arrive and finally, I had it done today. Have been driving for 2 hours and it's all good. My problem is intermittent when coming to a stop. After the reflash, the car feels so refresh. Throttle response is better with smooth up and down shift. I'm really happy with the car so far. At least, I don't have to change GB for now.

For those who has changed to 6WB, pls bring along your original instrument cluster because you will hit a brake when updating since it's not the original equipment for your car. I had to rush back home to bring back my old one in order to continue the reflash. Pls take note. Other than this, I will need to pay Max a visit to reactivate my rear air con control. That's all the hiccups from this exercise. Other than this, you will find more things to change while waiting. Things like airbox, sticky door handle....etc.

Give it a try. It may help some but not all depending on the severity of your problem.
