Z4 scraping the under carriage over humps

Please give tips on overcoming this or minimising.

Humps at entrance and exits of carparks are on slope, will wihtout fail scrap my undercarriage. On flat roads, bigger humps do the same to my ride.

It can be due to my weight (97kg), haha.

Re: Z4 scraping the under carriage over humps

Alex, see my comments in the other thread.

Re: Z4 scraping the under carriage over humps

It could also be that your shocks need replacement.

Re: Z4 scraping the under carriage over humps

Try mitigating by taking humps diagonally and sloooowly whenever possible

Alex
Humps at exit n entrance are certainly the big problem faced by many motorists, not just a Z4 so the only way to solve that problem is not to park there.

Now, if ur undercarriage scraps on a flat hump, then there is a problem and i m pretty sure it's your car. Like others hv said, your suspension could be gone or you probably didnt realiz there's something loose n hanging underneath ( this one can be seen quite clearly )

My ride is lowered and I havent come across any problem on flat humps at all in this country but I still hate the fact that there are too many humps and the worst ones are at the angles of exits n entrances.....That is the most fked up design ever and if anyone wants to petition agst this, count me in anytime. I have successfully complained to my condo management bout this after broken bumpers happend to my car couple of years ago.

Anyway back to Alex's question, I seriously doubt a person's weight can really lower the car till it scrapes.... Is the Z4 on aftermarket coilovers?
Please lah, my current ride is some 200 kgs heavier than my previous ride, and I am some 10 kgs heavier than I was 2 years back, but my previous Hamann sideskirts and lip seemed to be scrapping slopes and humps more often than not. Anyway, count me out for supper next time.

Re: Z4 scraping the under carriage over humps

yo Alex....

just out of Curiosity... did u get the blue Z4 on sale on the SG.carmart? that one looks pretty modded up...

if its stock n original... then it must be the problems with the Springs... getting soft... but only after 1 over years? better go back to PML n get it sorted out

dun worry abt the weight issue... coz i heard the Z4 is more than capable of performing some hot 'one-on-one' actions... with the top down thou... so 97kg is NOTHING!!... hahaha

Re: Z4 scraping the under carriage over humps

Alex,

i scrape the bottom of my Z on humps pretty often as well..... i just grind my teeth and try not to think about it. c'est la vie.

by the way, my style 106 with 1 month old f1 eagles are for sale if you're interested.

cheers

Re: Z4 scraping the under carriage over humps

My Z4 was scrapping humps the first day it was out from PML. The cat takes the brunt of all the scrapping. The next one is the front bumper.

The car wasn't meant for Singapore's urban jungle. We need a X5 Roadster project!

Re: Z4 scraping the under carriage over humps

I see, thanks Louis, kenntona, tanzy for sharing the painful scrapping experiences. Yes, I always hated the humps in Sgp, even though they did not scrap my other rides.

Yes pg7170, I bought that Blue Z4, ;-) I am also considering not to park at those places but one of them is my working place! Unless we move office, haha.

Next qn is how to take care of the soft top? I have bought the PML softtop cleaner and impregnating protection. Can I still go to those manual car wash and subject the car to hi power jets of water? Old habits die hard, I always go to manual car wash. Only times I wash my ride myself were for my motorcycle, decade ago, heh.

Re: Z4 scraping the under carriage over humps

My advice is to avoid those manual car wash: (1) you will inherit lots of swirlmarks from the way they handle your car; (2) the "impregnating" protection on your softtop will be eroded, unless you choose not to wash it. Remember, they will treat the soft-top like any other car...... Try Spa For Cars - members wash at $10......

Re: Z4 scraping the under carriage over humps

If u really dont hv a choice but go to ur usual car wash place, ENSURE you ask the guys not to hose the water at the canvas AT ALL. The pressure is too hard and it's probably gonna do more damage than a good clean.
