hi all,

Just realised my new E90 doesn't come with HID or xenon(can't tell the difference). Anyone can advise or know any installer who can install HID on E90? Don't like the yellow light, prefer HID. And what's the price I should be looking at?

Thanks to all.

Vince

You will need to change the whole headlight assembly and reprogram the car to recognize the Xenons.
Mike (SWC) may be able to help. Its not going to be cheap though!

Re: where to fit aftermarket HID lamp on E90?

wow, didn't know it's so tedious... How much will it cost usually? Can advise? And who's Mike? Haha, newie here..

thanks

Re: where to fit aftermarket HID lamp on E90?

the cost its 4-5-6K range. its not a joke, its true.

Re: where to fit aftermarket HID lamp on E90?

Re: where to fit aftermarket HID lamp on E90?

the cheaper alternative is to change to a whiter looking bulb 4000k+ but u will end up with hid eventually as time goes on....hehe.

Re: where to fit aftermarket HID lamp on E90?

I think maybe a bit cheaper lah... coz the 6k includes the headlight washer assembly right?

I guess if you want to retrofit, you can skip the headlight washer since it is quite useless.. and not like europe, singapore traffice law doesn't care if your xenon has a washer.

should call mike at SWC for a chat.. quite a friendly guy... and honest... I called him regarding the folding mirrors... his response is... better go to PML... no different in price

Re: where to fit aftermarket HID lamp on E90?

no headlight washer, LTA not compliant. PML said one. its your car. you decide.
even without washer, its 4K retrofited. actually its the reprogram on the car that is pain in the ass, no one (so far) I know can do it, expect Mike SWE. you may want to get some quote from him.

Re: where to fit aftermarket HID lamp on E90?

think no point spending this kind of money now on the headlamp...

Re: where to fit aftermarket HID lamp on E90?

AFAIK LTA does not recognise any retro-fitted zenon, with or without washer.

And I don't believe LTA requires the washer to make the Xenon compliance. If you look at the PI Harriers, Accords and many other models with Xenon, they don't come with washer.

In Europe, it is required by the authority to have a washer for your Xenon.

Whether it is worth it for the retro-fit, depends on individual lah... hahaha.. if you ask me, it is worth every single cent...

Re: where to fit aftermarket HID lamp on E90?

from a previous discussion somewhere in this forum, it was gathered that it is compulsory to fit the washers to ensure the xenons are LTA compliant and will pass inspection.

pml does offer the retrofitting at the price range acupunch mentioned as well, iirc mike sends it to them for reprogramming...

Re: where to fit aftermarket HID lamp on E90?

ya,but to spend 4k on the a pair of xenon headlamp assembly is too much for me at the moment. If it's comsidered illegal in all apsect, then I might just install a pair of HID on my car. But I don't know if it's okay, worried the car might not recognise the HID.

Re: where to fit aftermarket HID lamp on E90?

the next best alternative is the phillips diamond vision etc bulbs :)

a lot of members are using that...

During Super Import Night, I spoken to a Philip salesman regards the HID kit there had to offer for BMW 3-series in general. Is priced @ $530 inc. GST cash and carry, normal retail price is $599 according to him. So I asked the salesman, did you know that your HID wattage is gonna be different compares to the standaard OE bulbs current on 3-er. He answer, 'Yes'. I asked again, "So, there will be error codes after installation". His answer again, 'YES'. But you can asked PML to reprogram your BC to take in the new wattage according to Philip spec." I smiled and leave mins later.

till date, no one had successfully upgrade to HID without having errors. if you could please share with us. I'm sure 101 bro here are interested.

Re: where to fit aftermarket HID lamp on E90?

even PML is willing, is ain't gonna be cheap. the reaso why that retrofit Bi-Xenon so expensive, is because 1/3 of the 6K goes to labour. parts alone for a pair of Bi-Xenon with blub + ballast is around 3.2K. Below a 1K for the washer +spray paint on the top cover. If someone got some 20% discount from PML, the retrofit will cost 4.2K after discount. is worth considering then. am I making sense?

Re: where to fit aftermarket HID lamp on E90?

BTW the Philip HID for 3-er is 5000K if you like to know.

Re: where to fit aftermarket HID lamp on E90?

well... afaik, LTA will not approve any aftermarket Xenon. Someone correct me if i am wrong. In order for your Xenon to be approved by LTA, it has to come into our little island with Xenon in the first place.

As for inspection, i hardly hear of anyone who failed because of xenon lights fitted aftermarket.

However, (just my 2 cents worth) it is no point fitting HID lights unless you are willing to invest in the housing, which usually includes the projector type lense.... HID will look very scattered... not only it doesn't look nice.. it may become a hazard and blind others.... especially on a dual carriage way small road....

My 2 cents worth
