water seeping in under doors & repairing door interiors

Today, I noticed water is starting to seep in under the door of my car (E46). Looks like the rubber seals might be faulty, cos I really don't think water is supposed to be dripping off the bottom of the door interior (that fake leather panel). Its even soaking the felt that runs from the bottom to the top of the pillar!

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Car is under warranty, so intend to bring it in to get it checked out. Dunno if it's my imagination, but lately I've been feeling like the outside noise is getting alot louder from the driver's seat. Like when a truck rolls by, it seems alot louder than before? Is it possible the rubber seals are wearing out?

Also, I noticed a tiny nick at the bottom of the interior door panel. It looks like maybe a tiny piece of sharp gravel pierced through. Need to speak to PML to have that checked out, cos I found bits of sand on the door sill, along with the seeped-in water. Does anyone know what's the next best solution to fixing nicks in the fake leather interior door panel (apart from replacing the entire panel)?

that shld b the rubber, experience it b4... mine was worst wen it rains. Need an umbrealla? hehehe. just sent it back to pml...

Re: water seeping in under doors & repairing door interiors

go to pml and bang table!

i had the same problem after the collected the car from pml. before i went to pml for servicing, everything was fine. when i collected it, it was leaking. went to bvo and he adjusted the weather strip and everything is fine now.

go get pml to replace whatever they can before warranty expires.

I am surprised that the quality of a BMW E46 is that poor, as to suffer from leaks so early in life.
Don't be surprised when the floor base holes through in no time!!!

There is an impermeable membrane just next to the door panel. This membrance is glued to the door panel all-round so that water will drain directly through the drainage holes at bottom of door. Due to shoddy workmanship on the door panel and / or locking mechanism, this membrane is not glued back properly and hence the water seeps into your floor board.

yes! yes! i remember this, my 4 yr old jepun chia (the one start with L) rubber seal on the driver side door came loose. apparently the manufacturer use eproxy glue (or equivalent) to stick it onto the door metal. door close louder, but no leaking yet. dealer charge a bomb for rubber, so got a nice mechanic to get a made-in-jepun replacement to fix the problem.

thnk outside workshop will be able to do this, no need dealer involvement since it is wear and tear item which is chargeable.

Our BMWs also no different lah. African made some more.
Manufacturer also use epoxy to stick rubber to door metal what!
And they charge a bomb for a pittance job.

I can get things done for much less at JFC or BOV, than at PML.
At least Jepun reliability trusted better than German-African. That I can say with confidence.

Which model are you driving bro? Lots of us hang out at BVO pretty often. Will look out for you the next time you're there and have kopi.

What Q number ah?

You just have to accept that plain fact that our BMWs are not as reliable as Japanese cars.
Too bad if you can't.

Yes I spend more time on my car and at the workshops, than my wife, her Sunny. But there is a difference in the 2 cars as a total package. Otherwise why do we even own a BMW? Why even join this forum?

Do you have a problem with BMW owners voicing and sharing their experiences here?
If so why do you even bother posting let alone join this forum.

This is a public forum for people to share their passion and of course experiences with a BMW. I strongly believe not everyone is a qualified technician to troubleshoot the problems they have. Therefore they post in this forum hoping to get some info or help.

If BMWs are indeed as unreliable as you perceive them to be, why did you buy one in the first place. Fact is you bought it used as well.

Hello, I think you better read my reply to pingman again, cos that's exactly what I said.

So who's saying BMWs must be reliable? Definitely not me. They aren't.

Yes I spend more time on my car and at the workshops, than my wife, her Sunny. But there is a difference in the 2 cars as a total package. Otherwise why do we even own a BMW? Why even join this forum?

Again I am telling pingman that if he buys/owns a BMW, he has to live with its unreliability, but there are other differences that would support buying a BMW. If he cannot accept the first fact, even though the second reason more than overwhelms the first, then he should not even own a BMW, nor even join this forum ... where people can share their frustrations with their cars and get advise too.

Now don't you think what you had said in your post is EXACTLY the same as what I was replying to pingman?

I think your Engrand is very poor leh.

Re: water seeping in under doors & repairing door interiors

seems like in recent times, there's alot of hatred between us BMW owners and some Jappy car owners....especially those with the "L" word....

aiyoh.....relak la everybody....especially those that claim that their Rising Sun cars are very reliable.... different makers got diff problems one.... some surface earlier during the car ownership, some in later years.... why? Cause its all mechanical....wear and tear...

Don't keep arguing la....relak...... :)
