Good stuff! but the engine modified! Lost the fun of modification plus you dunno if he did overkill the engine unless we can get a good history of the car. Like some of my friends, they provide a list of modifications to the next buyer then sure save to buy a modified car. Honestly, it is so difficult to find a car below 8k depre and even have people will be wary to purchase, agree?

=) you are right. I bought new car. 8 days old have to change cooling coil, whole dashboard got to come out. less than 500km mileage haha. just didn't want to scare people off..... exchange singpass compare how many houses and cars huh =P

aiya that guy got too serious with meek.=)

8 days old? Gosh!!!

Is it because it is more than 7 days, no 1 to 1 exchange? Singapore should learn from US. 31 days money back guarantee.

Re: Things to look out for in a >100km used E90 318i

A bro here bought a 1 owner 323, mileage 45k.
He spend lots of $$ repairing after taking over the car.

High mileage doesn't mean sure have problem, it depend how the previous owner take care of the ride. Luck also play a very important part. Some ride gearbox kaput between 50k-80k mileage. Some owner change engine oil every 6K, some 12K-15K.....

Best is send the car to workshop to check it up, it just cost around $80+-.

Haha, actually got quite a few going for 7k depreciation, maybe market for that car is bad. Else, if inspection at pro-subaru shops pass, seems like those cars do make a good buy. Other than the badge like someone mentioned of course :)

I threw 10k into an e90 over a 6 month period.
Went to a site sponsor for a check and he told me the car is in good cond with many parts replaced by previous owner already, he said only thing left to look out for was air-con and possible water leaks. milege then was 90k km.

I took over the car, and paid about 4k upfront to solve oil/water leaks and replaced suspensions, pads, rotors and other misc stuff.
Within the next 6 mths, gearbox starts to jerk - replaced
Alternator failed suddenly- replaced
Valve seals start to leak- replaced
Starter motor start to give problems- replaced
And all these are not cheap, gave me a very bad experience.

Ive since moved to F30 (lesson learned, wanna buy bimmer; better get one under ad warranty). And this e90 engine block is a headache, its like having a PMS-ing othet half.

Agree if depre is around the range. Jap cars quite hardy in Singapore. I like the power of dream! hahaha...
Legacy is a different breed of cars as compared to Rex. For me to choose, I will go for Legacy but definitely not a Rex even if it is a super good buy. Honestly it is not about the badge for me. it is a matter of personal preferences . :)

Buy new no problem meh? My F10 has been veering to the left... now I see the suspension rear driver side is lower than rear passenger side... my E90 LCI brand new from PML also had weird engine issue and it felt very underpowered. Nobody could pinpoint where it went wrong. After several visits to PML and MA, I sold the car.

All heng sway one lah.

The big problem with used car is this... most of the time when we first buy a used car we are overzealous with the initial visit to the workshop. Like xiaofoggy... my first E90 was 2nd hand and I went to change so many things hoping to get it fixed "once and for all". No such thing. Car will slowly kaput one. I also spent around $8K on the E90 before I traded it up for a E90 LCI (now I feel cheap and stupid. don't ask me to exchange singpass pls).

I also subsequently bought a Volvo V50 second hand and made the same damn mistake by overspending on the initial repairs. The Volvo is still around, and it has been giving small issues every year. So that is something I really learnt the hard way.

My wife bought a used Mazda last year, and I did not get overzealous with the repairs. You must be thinking "Jap car what, won't pai one". You are WRONG. A lot of small problems, just that I didn't bother. And the car itself is crappy and noisy, so you do not really feel/hear it. The engine has a ticking noise, I think its the valve lifters. The suspension is creaking its ass off, I just turn up the radio. It's veering to the left, I did an alignment, no dice, fuck it, just drive it. It also has a persistent CEL caused by either bad O2 sensor or catalytic converter. I just ignored it. As long as it is not something major or affects safety, I just ignore it. To date the repair bills for the Mazda has been kept to a minimum, to an extent that I didn't bother to change the O2 sensor despite the CEL. I just bought a OBD cable from eBay and reset it before going inspection :p Being cheap got art one, OK? don't ask me to exchange singpass pls

Honestly I don't understand why SG conti cars have so much issue as compared to overseas. My friends in Germany and US whack their cars like no body business, especially my German friend who always max out his speedometer on the Autobahn. Out from filter lane, kick down on the throttle on his 535D. My US friend has clocked 200miles and the car still goes on strong. It definitely has minor repairs here and there due to wear and tear but not like what we go through here.

For used cars, we can blame the previous owner never take care of cars. What about new cars that some of our forumers experienced? Is it because we are getting inferior goods as the manufacturers know Singaporeans love to change car after 3 years so they can afford to ship us the less good quality batch? Sigh... Tian Gong never bless Singapore Conti-Cars!!!

Stop and go traffic is worse than driving high speed constant load constant speed. Plus our weather sucks. One day hot, one day rain, at night cold. Somemore so humid. You try put a bicycle out in the open in both countries see which one rot first.

Then I should introduce my company product to the automotive industry and get them to use it on Asian countries cars. hehehe...
Like that we don't need to exchange singpass liao. ;)

Re: Things to look out for in a >100km used E90 318i

Ya start-stop traffic is evil. It's a good idea to drive up to Malaysia occasionally.

Back to topic, one thing to look out for is... cockroaches :nehnehhh:

Re: Things to look out for in a >100km used E90 318i

My story still not yet done with new cars cos I was rushing to a meeting. I also bought a brand new Nissan Latio back in '08... that car within the first year the aircon died... and of all times it died while I was on the secondlink caught in a 3-hour jam at 11am in the morning on the way up to KL for CNY. So who ever tell me Jap cars don't kaput pls don't show your singpass.

Re: Things to look out for in a >100km used E90 318i

it is heng sway only, my previous 07 latio never gave me any problem, drove for 5 years from new till 130K km.
the only spendings are every 10K change oil and filter, changed brake pads i think twice only, CVT oil changed twice and tyre changed 2 or 3 sets, battery change once, spark plug never change before, wiper change once, absorber never change, air con filter change once. and i think thats all for 5 years.

Indeed, Jap cars can be very hardy. And sometimes it depends on luck as well on what you bought.

yes agree with you bro. dun understand why cockroaches like to seek shelter in our ride.
Occasionally, i get one or two crawling around but u try to hunt for their nest and you won't find them so I bet they must have climbed into car when you park near a place infested with cockroaches
