Things to look out for in a >100km used E90 318i

Re: Things to look out for in a >100km used E90 318i

That is affirmative espeically with kids in the car.
Just cannot stop them from eating otherwise, you will not have a peaceful ride to your destination.
Consistently parking behind a rubbish chute will also risk cockcroaches invading your car.
So stay away if you can unless the lot is so good and convenient to the lift lobby.

To all experienced bros/sis,

I would like to find out what would be the main things to check/look out for when getting a used E90 318i that has more than 100km mileage on them. The engine bay area and bottom are totally clean with no oil spills or leaks from what I can see. Thanks in advance!

i think most impt of all..steering wheel has to be working.

heard if you always buy food or eat food in car, cockroaches will get into the car. like from some aircon vent...

no i don't do that. maybe the previous owner. initially when I get the car, can see many xiao qiang but now hardly.

Re: Things to look out for in a >100km used E90 318i

Seems the E90 engine has quite a number of perennial problems, is that true from the E90 owners here?

I'll be looking at a ~80K km 2008 320i XL in the next day or two. Was at Commonwealth Lane today, saw some 323i/523i, only have 2006 models though. Also saw a very nice 2008 Skyline 250GT but ~13K depreciation though. :|

Luck is more important than anything...
I threw 10k into an e90 over a 6 month period.
Went to a site sponsor for a check and he told me the car is in good cond with many parts replaced by previous owner already, he said only thing left to look out for was air-con and possible water leaks. milege then was 90k km.

I took over the car, and paid about 4k upfront to solve oil/water leaks and replaced suspensions, pads, rotors and other misc stuff.
Within the next 6 mths, gearbox starts to jerk - replaced
Alternator failed suddenly- replaced
Valve seals start to leak- replaced
Starter motor start to give problems- replaced
And all these are not cheap, gave me a very bad experience.

Ive since moved to F30 (lesson learned, wanna buy bimmer; better get one under ad warranty). And this e90 engine block is a headache, its like having a PMS-ing othet half.

Re: Things to look out for in a >100km used E90 318i

Is it just the E90 or the E46 as well that has common problems or just BMW cars in general?
Especially so with engine oil leaks and gearbox issues etc.

I would advice not. Had a 82k mileage on a 3.4 years old E46 318 before and all i can say is quite a lot things will happen within the next 1.5 years. I changed the entire cooling system and aircon compressor all within before 5 years. not that I am not expecting the issues which are not extremely major but the trips to the workshop.... really makes me think twice about buying a high mileage BMW. so after that I got a 60k KM 523. much better. i won't recommend paying a high premium for low mileage vehicles just for the sake of it but never pay cheap for a high mileage. if you know what i mean.

Re: Things to look out for in a >100km used E90 318i

The 6 pot 323/325i should be relatively better than the 4 pot 320/318i.

But it largely depends on how the ex owner maintained the car.

When the E90 came out PML was doing 25,000km oil change interval and it really messed up a lot of cars.

Is this the 250GT you saw?
Used Nissan Skyline Car for Sale in Singapore, The Car Regency - sgCarMart

If u mind the speed cut at 180kph then don't buy the skyline. Till now, no one has a device to remove the speed cut. Not sure if Nissan Japan or Nissmo has it in japan.

I test drove the 323i & the 320i. The 6 pot is definitely much smoother & more powerful. Didn't manage to find a nice 323i though.

Re: Things to look out for in a >100km used E90 318i

Yup. Very well maintained by previous owner. It's been demodded already.

Re: Things to look out for in a >100km used E90 318i

Am not sure if there is a speed limiter remover available or not. The rear can only seat 2 pax comfortably as the transmission tunnel is a bit high.

Re: Things to look out for in a >100km used E90 318i

Yes, definitely. So far have not encountered any steering issues.

Re: Things to look out for in a >100km used E90 318i

10k not enough? What would be a more accurate figure?

My product can provide very good corrosion protection but it can onlu be used at factory level as it needs to go through a process. It can't be used by the general public. The only way is to get it to penetrate to automotive OEM then general public will benefit. We are working on it.
