Ed, the old adage applies..... is he overtaking?

"Keep Left Unless Overtaking"

depends on the definition of "overtaking". is traveling at 1km/h more than the 2nd lane cars deemed as overtaking? yes, i suppose. but in light of an oncoming faster car, shouldn't the car let you pass first before taking his own sweet time "overtaking"? too much to ask, i guess...

sigh... at 3 am, you have a lone motorcyclist on lane 1 travelling at 90km/h with a totally clear road ahead...

what are we to do?

Such senior citizens will always take advantage of the situation that they are older and no one will lay hands on them, plus our road rage law protects them if they were beaten up.

Just like Pierre Png case, the person who cried foul is actually the one at fault first.

LTA should do something about this actually... in sg roads are well lited, headlight is not needed to drive home... hahahaha...

so it is more of forgetfulness couple with lited instrument clusters problem...
..
...and IMHO, this situation is made worse/ more dangerous with the rear mirror auto dimming feature in our Bimmers..

Yes I so agree with this..sometimes in the night if the incoming car from behind doesnt turn on his headlights, I may miss him...q dangerous..

On this thread, I feel sometimes we are too quick to put ourselves ie Singaporeans down...yes we are kiasu...etc...but we are not that bad a bunch at least I like to think so...few black sheeps here and there..its like that everywhere not just in Spore...maybe we are a v tiny country tts why there seems to be alot of cases...There are still plenty of good souls around! Just bad luck I guess...there are also alot of bad cases abroad. sa US Aussie etc..but this is for another day anothter thread to discuss..lets chill and ignore these ppl..

Re: Road has become colder?

I have strong inclination (and now abundant online proof) to believe that although the locals have gone north in terms of quality of life and wealth, they have deterioriate so badly in their behaviour, grace, mannerism and recently lots of poor anger management. Just take a look at the recent spates of gang violence, road rages and domestic violence. Why do grace and wealth correlate so negatively in our society? Maybe we will never change. Sure feels like the courteousy campaign started 20 years ago never ever took off.

my better half and me also felt that the society has degraded in grace, mannerism, etc...it seems quite deep rooted already....doubt any campaign can salvage the current situation...perhaps live and let live is the best policy?

The intention to overtake or to cruise leisurely own-time-own-target on the first lane is too obvious.......

Re: Road has become colder?

I guess driving in Singapore is pretty stressful at times...but then it depends on your luck for the day, if U r feeling good and your day is good, then everything goes smoothly for U while on the road, ppl give way, when U give way, ppl wave thanks, etc.

When its a bad day, you give way, ppl still stare at you, etc. Refuse to give way to you etc....

Guess it all boils down to luck and of cos there are inconsiderate road users which simply refuse to give way and self righteous in their tots, hogging the right lane, etc and in this kinda cases we cant really do much except to overtake them safely whenever an opportunity rises.

Singaporeans are supposedly happiest in Asia, so why so angry on the road?

S'pore is 'happiest in Asia'
reading from the article, security is rated higher than freedom when it comes to happiness...does this means so long as drivers feel safe on the road, they are happy? needless to touch on freedom since every driver can perpetually stay on lane 1...

Re: Road has become colder?

Quote his words: 'In Singapore, you cannot freely buy pornography, it is harder to start a political party, but if you're a woman, you can walk down the street any time of the day and you can be pretty sure no one is going to bother you.'

Obviously he didn't go to Geylang during his visit to Sg. Alot of Ah Pehs there would 'molest' any gals walking down the streets with their eyes. And that recent handphone-rape case where victim walked on a dim-lited street? Schoolgals who were molested at void-decks? No I don't think it is safer for women these days to walk on the streets as compared to 5 or 10 years ago due to the large influx of you-know-who.

Re: Road has become colder?

I've been meeting very aggressive drivers on the road recently. These people should du dio 369 one day. Angry that you cannot road hog freely? Angry that you cannot freely swerve into other cars? Let 369 hack off a few fingers for you then say.

Either that or I should join.

actually recently there are quite a number of drivers at least one a day i encountered driving w headlight off at nite. this correlates to cars modernization with respect to instrument cluster being permanently lited irregardless the head lite is turn on or not and the introduction of "auto" head lite mode.

Those not on auto headlight mode that is when you see some of them driving happily in stealth mode at night. they think they can see the road and the instrument cluster is lited so it is fine... other can't see them never mind.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I hate those drivers who either never switch on headlights or driving with aftermarket cheong super duper bright white lights! always tell my gf.

nite time never switch on headlights. - see ah dear, that is BATMAN driving. nite vision on. zengggg.

super duper bright white lights! - see ah dear, that is a BLINDMAN driving. got to give way. he cant see well.

Wait Lah!!! Not Like you're gonna die the next minute... Even so, you don't need filled tires to travel on your way to hell... You'll walk!!!

Have you noticed that it was an Old Man in 60s... this should be more applicable to him...

Since they have taken a video of the two old farts

1) Cursing and swearing in public - therefore making derogatory remarks at the aggrieved party;

2) Hitting onto the car with legs and the brolly - therefore causing harm, injury, damage and loss to the car.

They should have called in the police to take down the particulars of the couple then take legal actions against them.

They may not be able to afford the damages, but it gives them a stern warning and due punishment for their inconsiderate and inappropriate actions.

Plus, you never know if they have just withdrawn their CPF and are able to pay damages and costs.
