Rims - how to tell the real from the replicas?

Are there replicas available for all brands? ACS, Breyton, Harmann, BBS? If so, can they be easily told apart and what are the distinguishing features between the real stuff from the replicas?

Re: Rims - how to tell the real from the replicas?

Not too sure are there replicas for all brands but for sure the brands u mentioned, there are replicas around... By the weight, serial number behind the rims and certain part of the rim against the original can tell... well, also depends where u get the rims from, for sure u will not see ACS replicas from PML... for sure u will not see Breyton replicas from Juzz4cars... Hamann from Pheonix..

Its like distinguising an original and replica boob like that.. method is the same.

Re: Rims - how to tell the real from the replicas?

ah orh. how to differentiate? real rims soft to touch, fake rims hard is it? :)

Many models of these brands you'd mentioned have replica modelled after them. For instance, the most common of all, ACS Type 4 Racing has replica - but it is 18" that is popular. I stand to be corrected that the real thing only comes in 19".

Breyton's Imagine has replica model too.

As for Hamann, both HMII and PGII have replica, but those of PGII are easier to tell - the imprint "Hamann" is not found on one of the five spokes of the replica rim.

BBS CH has replica as well. Even more difficult to tell.

Take a trip to Leong Seng or Autobacs and you will see many replicas on the racks there. Then perhaps you wanna join us for the meetup to see for yourselves the OEM models...... and the replicas too !!!

Re: Rims - how to tell the real from the replicas?

Some Hamann replicas I hv seen before are embossed with the word Hanamm......ROFL..

Re: Rims - how to tell the real from the replicas?

wow didnt know that BBS CH has replica as well.. where can i find them? :D

Re: Rims - how to tell the real from the replicas?

I hv seen Replica BBS CH before at the shop opposite J4C before it was taken over. Dunno where the shop moved to nowadays. Anyway, the brand is called Lenso. I could tell that it's replica from the color.

That shop was called South-Pac. I'd think Autobacs carries the replica CH too.

oh, so its lenso. By the way, where can I find original BBS CH? Stamford?

Re: Rims - how to tell the real from the replicas?

Stamford, South East, Hurry Tires should hv them.

Re: Rims - how to tell the real from the replicas?

When you say Replica, do you mean they wil will have the real "brand" name on the rim? or just he design but under other name?

OEM means real?

Re: Rims - how to tell the real from the replicas?

when u say replica, do you all mean same design without the brand or with the brand? what is the diff from OEM?

Re: Rims - how to tell the real from the replicas?

aiyoh.. scarly the OEM rims also make in Taiwan one.. but we don't know only... cause nowadays... all the car makers are trying to cut cost cut cost... so who knows ah... Scarly HAMANN, Breyton, and OZ rims all are make by some asian factories ah.... :) :)
we really don't know ah.. just look at the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner... 80% of the plane are made out of USA...

Means fake but trying to be real. OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. Some with the brands (replica watches, replica handbags, wallets), some without brands (replica computer accessories with generic branding).

Ethics aside, differences for replica car parts most often than not lie in the quality issue. However, it depends on the parts in question. For instance, some replica bodykits have quality issues, while nobody has complained about those replica pedals set on AC Schnitzer. However, some replica products have been seen to be value-for-money.

Do not be confused replica parts with aftermarket parts. Some brands do not replicate, rather they spent $$$ on R&D and manufacturing to issue new products. For instance, Vorsteiner (bodyparts), Brembo (brakes), Hamann (wheels and all), K&W (shocks), Sebring (exhaust) are all aftermarket brands.

Re: Rims - how to tell the real from the replicas?

And replica rims can cost as little as 1/2 to 1/3 off the original ones.
So sale-able nowadays in motoring world. Some have international bodies approved too!

Re: Rims - how to tell the real from the replicas?

actually, is there a way to tell if the set of acs rims on the car in the street is replica or the real deal? short of looking around for the serial number 'behind' rims? do replicas come complete with the logo or are there slight variations to the spelling etc?

Re: Rims - how to tell the real from the replicas?

sometimes the reps come in sizes or PCD that the originals don't so that's a dead give away.

for example, if you see a 17" type IV racing on a white mazda 3, you can bet your last penny that its a rep.

Which one are u ?
1. Mindset wanna go for original but plenty of replicas ard and therefore u r worried of being perceived of having a possible replica too

or

2. Mindset wanna go for replica but want it to look as close as possible to the original and will still be perceived as having a possible replica too.

From what I hv seen, logos used in rep ACS are damn close to the originals. Almost direct copy.

While the visual appearance of a rim is very important, don't forget bout the quality make of the rim either:)

Re: Rims - how to tell the real from the replicas?

another good example will be the CSL replicas,
The hub bmw logo cap is different.
Replica has a more plastic look to it.
They also do not have the letterings on it whereas original does.
The M logo is softer
The valve cap has no M logo. But you can steal from Jack.

However, on the slow roll, they look exactly the same. :p
