My NEW 320i LCI from PML
- Rear diff issue from day one, whirrrrrrrrring noise from 20-50kph, MA replaced entire rear axle.
- Throttle response / engine performance issue, took several visits to MA to get it fixed (software update, adaptation reset, software update, adaptation reset).
- I got a GM gearbox (was expecting the ZF gearbox like my old E90) and IMHO the ZF was very good. GM is smooth but sluggish no fun to drive.
- I decided to sell the car anyway...

Now my F10 is used, I had some savings vs buying new, I am more willing to accept some of the issues I currently have
- Fluctuating RPM on cold start
- Throttle flat spot, improved w/ software update but I think can still do better
- Leather seats in front terribly wrinkled. MA said can't claim warranty for it, so I went to Classic Auto and they helped "shrink" the leather for me, it's better but still bad.

I will send my car in to MA for servicing once it hits 40k then I'll see if there's a TSB to resolve all these issues. I suspect another software update. Well at least none of it seems like mechanical issue.

Yours is small case. My new 520i got the following issues from 1st day:

1. Low pitch squeaking noise from rear brakes
2. Leather arm rest leather slight damage
3. Driver seat leather torn at the rear, about 1.5cm
4. Driver seat paint drop off at seat belt area
5. Bonnet total misalignment, worse than jialat accident car
6. Sibei jerky gearbox
7. Seat belt squeaking like nobody's business
8. Slight steering pull to the left
9. Same wrinkled seats
10. Two scratch on rear boot around model badge area, about 3-4cm, was there on collection day at pml

First bmw and I have never had so much issues with a brand new car. And honestly, the steering feel is FAR from a decent driving machine, not to mention udm.

So if say later I upgrade to f001-12-03-513 means I might not fully be integrated with this new firmware if the integration level is low?

Re: PML or MA

No,I think I-Level goes hand in hand with firmware version

There are quite a few "computers" in the car so using firmware causes a lot of confusion. So instead in bmw's the term used is Integration Level or I-level.

The I-level of the car is determined by the programming version. So from programming version you can also derive I-level. Just think of programming version as a one big package for BMWs.

The I-level stated in the profile does not match the exact I-level in my car.
Example profile shows F001-09-11-500 when actual is F010-09-11-507.
Profile shows F001-03-12-511 when actual is F010-03-12-512

Then how do u know what is actual? Ask sa for it or get someone with esys and enet cable and read from the car.
It will tell you factory, previous and current I-levels.

Me da man... Please thanks me
Quality post....

What do you mean by dead?

I am driving a E60 525 LCI.

My intention is to one day change to F10 520 (if I can still live with PML).

Dead as in bo feeling...

Re: PML or MA

Don't think my case is lemon enough for lemon law to work leh...Anyway the biggest issue is that PML and BMW did not even check to ensure something so obvious as misaligned bonnet and torn leather was not spotted when preparing the car for collection.

On the brighter side, at least the doors lock/unlock when I want it to, the engine starts every try and the transmission can go into drive every time.

You are too kind to be true..... which I said is the cause of Singaporeans becoming complacent.

Quoting Thomas Edison.... "Show me a thoroughly satisfied man, and I will show you a failure."

Good is not good enought. Perfection is the yardstick of global challenge.

IT is cornered by the Indians; phones by the Koreans; life pleasures by the XMMs and misaligned military strength by the US. So whatever is left for us, let's do it perfectly....

Get it right the first time.... $2,200 bicycle is looking after staff welfare.

Dear Pretender,

Technical issue solutions are not as straight forward as any vehicle owner hopes it would be. There are situations where a longer timeframe of evaluation is needed to ascertain the root cause of the issue. It might be symptomatic of other bigger issues or it could be a simple one. I sincerely hope you can give us the opportunity to solve your issues. The car ultimately comes from BMW and not any singular AD. But that decision ultimately lies with you. Thank you again for the opportunity, I apologized if we have not met up with your expectations given the timeframe alloted.

I guess this is where it becomes ambiguous. If the rectification is just to replace a part then warranty is straightforward. Unfortunately for many issues, some kind of labor is involved to remove ancillary parts just to replace the defective part and that's where the problem is. Obviously, repair done by PML will not be "warranted" by MA as it could be due to poor workmanship or error and similarly for PML for any jobs done by MA.

This is scary considering it's supposedly from a renown luxury marque. I'm beginning to think BMW is a little over-rated and over-hyped propagated by motoring journalists.

As for the seats, I noticed this is a particularly teething problem in BMW. Don't know if it's because the leather they used is not acclimatized for the weather and humidity here. The area on the "bolster" area of the seats always crumple and wear out a lot faster than the other parts because that's where we placed our bum first when getting into the car. That's why I always put a mat on the seat since the driver side of the seat is the most used.

Well after reading all these I think I am convinced NOT to buy a brand NEW car anymore. At least I buy a USED car, I get what I see, I get what I try... and I pay less and may even have warranty (if under 3 years old).

damn agree..
my new F20 doesnt feel like the tested F20 at PML..
zzz

Wow I thought when my screen,i-drive and radio failed after one week from collection is already pretty bad...as for the paint work my car has a rough patch on an area on the roof, was informed as water mark, I suspect is caused by inexperienced hands during polishing....no wonder some people I know would not let dealers touch their cars during PDI, rather they will send their car groomers to polish before collection.
