Shaun bro,
I saw a Toyota Corolla uproot a lampost at AMK Ave 3. 3 women in a JDM (forgot the make but there was a picture of the totaled car) killed when they wrapped their car around a tree at AJC, saw a Honda Civic with most of its engine on the road at Woodlands Ave 7, saw firemen using a hydraulic spreader trying to free someone from a Stream at the Delta Road on-ramp to the AYE.
Hi Pbear,
Lamp posts are very weak vs an average tree.
Unknown JDM.. too vague..
Civic is a common car that people like to modify and/or street race, no not applicable
Spreader on Stream.. trapping not equal to serious.. could be just chassis deformation jamming doors up. And what caused it? Accident with a lorry? How is the accident spectacular?
There are numerous examples of these cars in accidents. Take a trip to the Borneo Motors body shop in Leng Kee or any of the independent inspection centers. Very educational.

I remember seeing a Corolla at the inspection in Ayer Rajah with a roof that was sloping sideways and with no wing mirrors. He must've have rolled over. Repeatedly. Maybe down a hill.
The point is.. there are many, many examples. Most don't get reported. I think many other haidees here will have other cases. Too bad you don't trust us enough to go along with our "anecdotal examples".
Yah cos there are no numbers no reports. Just "I saw". All the examples I listed earlier of the sportscar cases are documented ones. I disagree with those who say that only sportscar accidents are likely to get coverage. Look at the Lancer or Civic stories that get covered. These days really anything gets covered, esp accidents that cause jams, involve fatalities.
As for your claim that "any fatal car accident usually catches coverage, as does one that causes a jam, or that has spectacular damage. Idiot stompers or forum-busybodies will cover anything.", I think what you should do is to tally the number of Stomp/ST articles against the number of announced accidents causing tailbacks on the roads (plenty whenever it rains). Maybe you should also make a trip down to see if its a sports car/UDM/Merz/Audi involved or a run-of-the-mill JDM. I don't think your argument will hold, whether in absolute numbers or per-capita.
I can't put that much time into it.
But let's run a little test going forward..... let's wait for the next very serious mundane-car to mundane-car accident (huge damage or death) that occurs on public roads in the daytime, that gets covered by a member of the public or goes up on forums, but doesn't make it into the news, stomp, razortv, within 3 days of it occuring. If there is an example like this someone can highlight, I will pay you $200. However, if the accident gets covered by members of the public, and also makes it into the news or stomp within 3 days of occurence (different person submitting different photos, no interference) then you pay me $200.
Deal?

I think at some point you have to be logical and stop breaking your back by bending so far to extend all the benefit of the doubt in all situations, just because you too are an enthusiast, or mischievous on the road too here and there. Some things just are what they are.
It's strange to adopt a view that unless the drivers of the sportscars are caught red handed by police, or come out and admit they were speeding or racing, that only then can you criticize it.
In this case, I don't see how the sportscars were going fast enough to create that kind of damage, on that road at that hour (dense traffic). If you tell me they were just driving around normally like everyone else, that's just rubbish and I don't believe it. The 10 other latios and corollas around them should have been involved if it was just random. It's not random..
