gruppem use knn ......

since that's the case, we can customise our carbon air intake and use stock air filter. hahahaha

Cool article. Another 'neutral' experiment article which supported my past decision to stay with OEM air filter on my bimmer.

OEM air filter does not equate to BMW original air filter. KNN is consider OEM air filter too. You must double check OEM stuff is having the same specifications. OEM stuff maybe cheaper than original but does equate to the same.

Let me correct or clarify myself, with me stating I stay with 'OEM air filter', I meant I stay stock I.e. As per what was originally supplied by BMW.

Hope I clarified myself and apologies if it causes any slight misunderstanding :)

Re: KNN vs Hurricane vs Stock Air Filter

err. actually I am confused with this thread..

Are we talking about drop in filters or CAI?

Some talk about drop in filters, suddenly some talk about Hurricane and GruppeM which are CAIs...

For drop in, I thot K&N is better than stock BMW ones?

Oh, CAI voids ENGINE warranty FYI...sorry life sucks

I think depends on engine and the kind of traffic condition one travels in......
Must try then know whether good or not. Like Durex.

Re: KNN vs Hurricane vs Stock Air Filter

I am using K&N drop in filter on my F10...ok leh..but maybe inside chui liao I also dunno..

Chui liao your engine will tell you. Got sound one.

Re: KNN vs Hurricane vs Stock Air Filter

Drop-in = not much difference. Waste of money, to me.

CAI = open-pod designs, depends. For instance, in the hot 335 engine bay, a Gruppe M cannot work as well as thought, despite the good quality carbon fibre built and design. It could not isolate the heat from the engine. Hence, ironically, the Cold Air Intake actually sucks in hot air. I had the Gruppe M in my 335 - I could barely tell the improvement. Contrast this to a simple AFE open-pod WITH A WELL DESIGNED HEAT SHIELD built around it - the shield could actually block out some of the heat from the engine.

In short, it is not the product per se, but what subtle modifications your installer can do on it. For instance, if you really wanna explore deeper, try to talk to experimental guys like Rod (R2D) on heat shield wrap (reflective fabric type) or to construct a aluminium plates to block out the heat from your open pod.

don't need so serious to apologise lah. Cause a lot of people think OEM is basically original stuff.

Big difference! Durex small filter pores while KNN bigger! trying using KNN instead of Durex, engine sure biang!

Insulation is always good as it protects the air in the enclosed area. Anyway it also depends on the outside air you are drawing in. If outside temp is hot, it is about the same thou engine bay temp is hotter. The best is to run the air intake distance as short as possible. Like the EG days where everyone likes to CAI and open a hole at the bumper. I will never do it on bimmer! hahahaha

Exactly what my previous ride had, an open pod plus a customized aluminum plates with reflective heat wrap plus a ram from the front bumper... something I decided not to do for current ride and stuck to the original BMW setup bcos I want it to look stock.

Use Durex also biang... super duper filter till no air can pass through also

Re: KNN vs Hurricane vs Stock Air Filter

In a traffic jam in Singapore, only got hot air....

But at night or early morning, air very cooling. I like. Engine also like.
