I tried it two months ago and couldn't find any difference in fuel consumption, pickup, smoothness.

Worse, they had to cut the airflow pipe and is now secured with a ring. i always have this worry that the ring will loosen.....

What exactly did you try? How come need to cut airflow pipe?
