Imported used car - Good deal?

I think you also need to pay goverment another $10K for importing a used car.

But if it is truly a showroom car, it shouldn't be registered previously, hence should not be considered a used car right?

At $199,000, you could get a brand new 335i sedan from PML which are highly specced in any case :p

The car is considered "imported used" as it was originally registered in UK. The dealer claimed that even for show room car, it has to be put on the road to be transported to the show room hence the few hundred KM mileage. Anyway, paperwork show that too.

Sedan and cabriolet ... Very diferent leh.

my friend's car, malaysian car, sent in to PML last week. they serviced it FOC.
I am sure they claim money and credits from BMW Asia.

I doubt they would treat you as second class citizen. You might just buy from them in the near future. that is good business sense.

i think
pml and the malaysian dealers have agreements to service their counterparts cars right? Like, if pml sold cars break down in malaysia, they can arrange for the authorised dealer there to help the owner?

I don't think pml are inclined to serve PI customers the same way. Besides, it's already so hard to get an appointment for servicing at short notice. Pml customers can't be thrilled at the idea of their own convenience compromised even further.

To be honest, if i bought a PI car, i'd just make sure there's an external workshop that can handle all repairs, and get my warranty pegged to them. I would not expect the AD to serve me very well.. There's too little incentive for them.

Re: Imported used car - Good deal?

Don't need to be too hung up about AD servicing.
Or the lack thereof.

I know lots of people who service their new models outside.
With a decently established PI workshop.

Repair is all about
- Parts procurement.
- Good workmanship.
- having the necessary programming tools - which are fairly commonplace nowadays.

But of course to each his own.
That's why PML still holds on strong.

Re: Imported used car - Good deal?

So if the savings is large enough to undertake the risk. go for it.

funny though.
when i was looking at 335i cabs earlier this year.
I could've sworn there were a couple of imported used

I could've sworn there were a couple of imported used $180 but some low mileage too.

Re: Imported used car - Good deal?

Sure there are, even currently.
But these are for Original Reg about 2 yrs ago, with new 10-year COE.
For example, currently there are some mid 2007 ones, with new COE, selling

Re: Imported used car - Good deal?

just to add, those lower priced imported used 335 cabrio (below sgd180k) are all lower specs, without Idrive and GPS. Be mindful, such options cost at least sgd20k more for a PML car. PML dont sell 335 cabrio with lower specs (all consider highline and high specs)

Cgoh:

So in short, there is "no free lunch".
"YI FEN QIAN YI FEN HUO" especially from dealers.
I don't think dealers can and will undercut each other by too much.
They know the market inside out.
The only way to catch a discounted "good deal" is if we buy from a genuine owner selling, whereby we don't have to pay for the dealer's markup. It's not so common because these days most selling owners just trade in to dealers. But if you have patience and can wait, once in awhile can get a good deal.

If the car has a few hundred Km, it has been demo'ed, used as test car, or owned at some point. Show room cars are transported on flatbed or transporters, and accrue no mileage.

Check the UK registration -- most likely the car has V5 registration, meant for the driving public. This is the type LTA recognises. Be suspicious if it is not. Find out who the V5 was registered to before -- then you will know the history.

Yup indeed Sedan and Cabrio are very different creatures!

Seriously, I won't be bothered too much if the warranty is by PML or other PI workshops.. I had an engine blown off by a 3 Series bought from PML within a year, and they made me pay for the replacement and I had to wait something like 3 months for it. Servicing at PML also cost a bomb, I had so much problems. There are many workshops with ex-PML guys on board, and believe they charge more reasonably..

If you can have serious cost savings from buying the imported car, you can use the savings as provisions for future breakdowns. I bet you would have plenty of excesses from there, which you can use for new set of rims, or even a branded pc of bodykit!

Re: Imported used car - Good deal?

Thanks for all the views. As always, all you bros here have helped me to make up my mind. Instead of the 335 Cab, I went for the 630 Cab instead :). Will be collecting my car 1 week after COE bidding on 4 Nov.

Titanium Silver with black interior. Wanted black but had tough time maintaining my black E39 in the past so decided to go the easy route.

based on my experience, warranty will be 2yrs from date of original reg not from the reg date in sg. The reg date will be verified by pml by the use of the document from the country origin cant rem the name, if they cant verify this it will from manufacturing date as per record. first 2yrs pml claims from bmw asia so they will do as per their own car as after all they get paid.

bro, u got pm..
