High Pitch sounds from slow speed braking

I am getting a very high pitched sounds.. Eeeeee. Eeeeeee... whenever I brake at low speeds... for e.g. when reversing into a parking lot or stopping at traffic lights.

Can someone help to explain why?

HELP!!

Re: High Pitch sounds from slow speed braking

brake pad worn out or pebble/ stone caught in the brake pad

Re: High Pitch sounds from slow speed braking

for me, at first it was something trapped in the pad...

got it checked, and it came back.. and not long after had to change brake pads already... irritating but have to live with it... despite many complains to pml about it...

Re: High Pitch sounds from slow speed braking

i have exactly the same issues. car is only 1+ month old especially when parking and stop-go traffic. but, after a good run at expressway, the pitch sound seems soften and hardly heard. i thought the brake need to be heated up like F1 car .... hahaha. anyway, i don't bother the sound already unless it compromise safety :(

Can I spray WD40 onto brakes? It lubricates my pliers very well. Will it solve the braking squeal?

Re: High Pitch sounds from slow speed braking

you must be kidding right? hope you are talking about spraying a lubricant onto the brake rotors?! :shakehea:

Re: High Pitch sounds from slow speed braking

guys, you need to bed-in your brakes. this means really using your brakes from high-speed, and not gingerly step on them.

the irony is, the more you want to save your pads and rotors, the more you are wearing them down.

frm my experience... theres 2 reason....

if u just changed ur brake pad... or new car.... means ur brake not bedded in yet... drive around abit more... it will be fine..

if ur brake pad has been for quite some time... and wearing off soon... can also make this noise...

Re: High Pitch sounds from slow speed braking

for a stock brake, maybe it due to uneven surface of the rotor. i did skim abt 1mm and the settle

Re: High Pitch sounds from slow speed braking

So, can I spray WD40 onto the calliers and rotors to ease the squeaking?

Does Stamford Tyres do rotor skimming?

Re: High Pitch sounds from slow speed braking

go to kian tiong in sin ming. details can be found in the 'workshops and help' section of this forum.

however, i doubt in your case it's due to uneven rotors - if your rotors are uneven, you will experience steering wobble when braking. go read up the stoptech white papers and try it out first. will save you $ (not having to skim your rotors) and 1mm of your rotors thickness (your rotors will last longer).

trust me, i've experienced it before and it works...

Re: High Pitch sounds from slow speed braking

hi i'm also experiencing the loud brake squeal but its only when i release the brakes gently.
its inevitable during stop start traffic in the city.

had this since day one but pml said the brakes need to break in.
after 6,000km the noise can still be heard clearly.

what could be possibly wrong with the brakes for a rather new car?

did u change ur rims? if not i suggest u ask them to take apart the brake pads and have it checked.

I've changed my rims a few months back, and have been hearing this squealing sound also. Checked around and I was told that the sound usually comes when the brakes are cold, especially in the morning. But strange thing is how come the sound started almost immediately after I've changed my rims. Anyone knows?

i had a close look at the clearence between the brake calipers and rims and there is no way the rims could be brushing the brake area in any way. it must be the pads itself. not sure if its due to the weight of the new tyres and rims causing stress on the brake pads and disc?

some1 pls advise.

nope i'm using the stock rims and the noise is there despite pml 'servicing the brakes'.
pml refuse the change rotors & pads because they said there's nothing wrong with the current ones.

lan lan, just keep brining back and get them to fix it until noise is gone. bang table if mut lorr

cant imagine what it'll take to just have a simple fault rectified.

Hi. I am no expert here, just sharing my own exp.

My screeching noise comes only when i light brake, usually means you are braking from a slow speed (eg. parking, or slowing down to a traffic light). My screeching is only from rears since they are not braking as hard as the front i suppose. Hard braking (usually from high speeds)almost never hear any screeching.

If your answer to above is yes. than follow Jin's brake bedding link. I did that and it was better but did not totally eradicate as my pads are not stock (higher performance types) but my rotors are. so they may not be perfectly compatible to begin with.

sometimes we think the screech noise only happen after you changed something, but it could be there all the while but we never noticed (maybe windows were down lately after your last change that you noticed and start getting more aware).

If above don't work than go another w/s to inspect for piece of mind.

PS: I did tried WD40 out of desperation earlier on (my low speed braking screech was so bad that everyone thought a taxi is coming their way and they were going to wave me down, so mah lu!), it did got rid of the screeches but only for a day (the braking power was still close to normal actually:) ). Dun do that and dun tell Jin i did it :shhhh:
