Feel like changing tyres.....but to what?

Re: Feel like changing tyres.....but to what?

thanks coupe1, that's what i read somewhere on the net thatr the RE050s are standard fitment out of factory.....Ferrari or something...

RE050 is really quiet, i dont know if it still quiet after 10K km....

some members says the PS2 is even better that can last up to 20K km...

hard decision....man!!!

Re: Feel like changing tyres.....but to what?

My last PS1 lasted me 15000km, then cannot used anymore. Grip was gone and car was sliding out of corners. My current 50s look like they will last longer. Still quiet at 12000km. If comfort an noise level important to u, then the 50s. Afterall, how bad can they be if even the Ferrari Enzo uses than as standard fitment. Incidentally, my friends SL55 came with them as original tyres too. PM me if u want my contact where I got my 50s.

Re: Feel like changing tyres.....but to what?

Dont be completely disillusioned by the fact that RE050 used in Enzo is the same as those available in some tire shop. Believe it or not, it can be different, perhaps the compound but same tread design.

I experienced something like this when I learned that my Conti Sport Contact tires in my stock M3 were not the same as the CSC I could get off the tire shop rack... The manufacturer claims that the CSC on M3 was made specifically for M3....how does that sound?

Sounds like I should get some hia-dees to wallop them up.....cheating ! :biggun:

Re: Feel like changing tyres.....but to what?

Some truth to it. Yes, enzo could have different compounds used in the 50s for their specific sizes, but I am just giving my views for the 50s I used in my car. Me not familiar with ferraris or the super exotics that use specific compound tyres. Talking about that, I remember reading an article that the previous Lexus LS430 also used quiet compound Yokohama tyres that were specific to the LS only.

Re: Feel like changing tyres.....but to what?

I m using PS2 for my ride, staggered set up....25k liao...thread still pretty alright, grip handling all still good....I think it depends on how hard u push your car especially during tight cornering/turn. I was told when i got it tyres will bald around 25k plus minus, however, passing the mark is still good..:)

Re: Feel like changing tyres.....but to what?

wow! ps2 with 25k km on them... u must really be a gentlemanly driver!

Re: Feel like changing tyres.....but to what?

yup...i drive slow especially during turnin and cornering...only once in a while with some alc booster, will drive fast and furious...hehe.....actually i was pretty surprise when i see my tyres still in good condition...looking at it, think it should easily last me for another 5k - 10k.:)

Re: Feel like changing tyres.....but to what?

hi all,

My rear tyres CSC 1 are still going strong after 32000km ( by the look of the thread depth). They are the stock tyres when I bought my 318i SE in Dec 2004.

I have changed my front tyre sometimes in June this year to Michelin Preceda 2 (17"). They cost about $255 each from Leong Seng . They were pretty good.

any good recommendation for my rear ones as I'm thinking of changing them very soon ?

Re: Feel like changing tyres.....but to what?

Get the Preceda like the front one..
Why do u want to think of other brand?

Re: Feel like changing tyres.....but to what?

How come no bros here consider the Bridgestone's RE01R.
Its even higher rated than the S03 Pole Position. I am using Advan Sports, and grip level is good, in dry & wet.
Thinking of trying Federal 595 EVO, cause RS got no 19inch le... :(
PS2 very expensive, wonder how much for 285/30/19?

RE01R is very new and very limited in sizes so there hasnt been a marketing push for it. I hv wanted these tires for months and the only channel of distribution that I can get em is importing them myself. I know the Great White did that in the end.

It's awesome street tires with decent R compound and semi-slick shoulder block.
Problem is : it's heavy just like the SO-3 so if u r running on light rims they are ok
It's about 2-3 pounds heavier than PS2 for the same size per corner...that's alot

Re: Feel like changing tyres.....but to what?

ah so des neh Jack... didn't know they are that heavy... cool! I just checked PS2 for my size, $650! :yikess:
Maybe I should try Federal.. cheaper...
Yes, am thinking of asking the Great white to import 2pcs for me... front needs more grip... :D

The Advan Sport is quiet so far, but i think it could be due to our BMW's sound insulation too.. cause my friend said his is noisy, and he drives Subaru... The Advan Neova is noisy....

If you are not going for extreme performance handling, probably the Advan Sports, or Toyo TR1 is good enough... ??

Re: Feel like changing tyres.....but to what?

speaking of weight of tyres as a factor to consider, can some kind soul help rank some of the popular ones so we can see what is the price vs weight benefit of each?

Re: Feel like changing tyres.....but to what?

went to the tyre shop to feel the PS2 vs GY F1 vs Conti..and some others...
verdict is PS2 has the softest sidewall and when push with hand from top (w/o rims), the rubber is soft whereas the rest is hard. I dont know if this demo by the tyre seller is the correct way of telling the tyres is soft - giving a comfortable ride while still on 19"....

any comments?

Re: Feel like changing tyres.....but to what?
